LOKMAN SINGH KARKI APPOINTMENT AS CIAA CHAIRMAN FIGURES IN SUPREME COURT HEARING Kathmandu, 28 April: The supreme court Sunday resumes hearing on the appointment of former Chief Secretary Lokman Singh Karki as CIAA chairman on the recommendation of government and Maoists in a high-powered political committee of four parties and a Madeshi alliance. All members of the body originally supported the Maoist proposal to appoint Karki now accused by parties for excesses during a movement during the royal regime seven years ago. Karki critics say a man charged for excesses can’t e appointed to a top government position. Last week lawyers agued against the appointment f Karki. Nnnn UML POLITBURO MEETS TO DISCUSS PARTY POSITION IN TERAI Kathmandu, 28 April: UML politburo Sunday began a meeting to discuss the impact of a terai leader Ram Chandra Jha to Maoists. The party will mainly discuss election and the impact of the defection, Secretary Yubaraj Ghimere said. Election strategy will also be discussed. Nnnn
