SUPREME COURT HALTS EFFORT TO GET DRIVING LICENCES
EASILY
Kathmandu, 25 April: A single bench of the supreme court (SC) through
an interim order Thursday stopped implementation of a new system to
issue driving licenses for two wheelers in the capital initiated Tuesday.
Department of Transport Management (DTM) started the drive to issue
driving licences to holders who meet international driving standards.
The initiative was run on a trial basis.
A writ was issued following co plaints lodged by some driving schools.
The court said formal discussions on the issue wer e need and a hearing has been fixed for 30 April.

PRESIDENT RETUNS TO CAPUTAL
Kathmandu, 25 April: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav returned to the capital from his village Safai in Dhanusha Thursday.
He spent four nights resting and interacting with people of his district Dhanusha from where was elected to parliament on a nC ticket.
The president acted like a party politician.
He fed almost 6,000people every day like a party candidate from the state exchequer, one television report said.

PRESIDENT SHOCKED AT BANGLADESH BUILDING
COLLAPSE CASUALTIES
Kathmandu, 25 April:: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has expressed shock at the death of hundreds of people with the collapse of a building complex in a suburb area of Dhaka on Wednesday, RSS reports..
In a message to his Bangladesh counterpart, Mr. Abdul Hamid Advocate, President Yadav, on behalf of people of Nepal as well as on his own, offered condolences to the Bangladesh President and through him to the people there and the bereaved family members on the tragedy.
Similarly, Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi, in a message to the Bangladesh Prime Minister Ms. Sheikh Hasina Wajed today, expressed deep sadness on the loss of lives of hundreds of people with the collapse of a building complex in the Bangladeshi capital.
Chairman Regmi, on behalf the government and people of Nepal and on his own, expressed deep sorrow and sympathies to Ms. Wajed and through her to the people of Bangladesh and the members of the bereaved families at this hour of grief.
Likewise, Minister for Foreign Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire has expressed grief over the loss of more than hundred fifty lives in the same incident in Dhaka.
In a message to Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Dr. Dipu Moni, today, Ghimire expressed deep sorrow and sympathy to the people of Bangladesh and the bereaved families at this hour of grief.

MAOIST CHIEF DENIES HE MADE UNCRARITABLE
COMMENTS AGAINST UML
Kathmandu, 25 April: Chairman of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (UCPN-M), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has denied saying the CPN-UML was not
a political party, RSS reports from Salyan..
Addressing a gathering at Baphukhola of Salyan district on Thursday, Chairman Dahal made it clear that he, however, had commented that if the UML forged alliance with the Nepali Congress, it would lose its principles.
He also refuted the media reports that he was commenting such about the UML.
On a different note, Chairman Dahal said he would raise the issue of economic development during the India visit, and if India does not cooperate on this, it could be difficult to assist in her security concern.
At the programme, leader Dahal assured the people that he would take initiative to set up a potato research centre at Baphukhol of Salyan because the neighbouring districts Salyan, Rukum and Rolpa produce thousand tons of potato every year.
Party leader Janardan Sharma said once the people were made aware about the work policy of party's general assembly, the false impression about the party would be gradually wiped out.
He admitted to not paying attention to Salyan, Rukum and Ropal districts after the peace process though these districts had great role during the people's war.

RPP-NEPAL FORMS PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE
Kathmandu, 25 April: Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Kamal Thapa, has constituted the Parliamentary Committee in accordance with the party constitution, RSS reports..
The members of the RPP-Nepal's parliamentary committee are Padma Sundar Lawoti, Keshar Bahadur Bista, Rajeev Parajuli, Dr Dhawal Shumsher Rana, Chandra Bahadur Gurung, Hari Narayan Yadav, Govinda Khaniya, Bishnu Kumari Gurung, Dasrath Joshi and Sushila Shrestha, the party stated in a press release.
