Nnnn NEFIN ELECTION DISRUPTED Kathmandu, 13 May: The election process at the eighth national convention of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) has been disrupted. The general convention is taking place at Sauraha of Chitwan, RSS reports from Chitwan.. The election process was disrupted after there was dispute over the election system as the schedule was to start formal election process from 11:00 am by starting related processes from 8:00 am this morning. Representatives of the District Coordination Council said that they disrupted the election process as the demands put-forth by them about the election process on Sunday soon after the dissolution of the old committee was not addressed. Chairman of NEFIN, Raj Kumar Lekhi, said that some disputes are seen for the time being as the District Coordination Council put-forth two-point demands on the issue of statute amendment. Process for registering candidacies will starts soon after the resolution of disputes and there is a schedule that voting will begin after 4:00 pm today, he said. Lekhi and Sherpa have declared that they will not give candidacies to any post.The general convention will elect a 13-member Federal Council Secretary (central committee) including for a chairman, five vice-chairmen and a treasurer. Nnnn OPPOSITION PARTIES NVITED FOR TALKS AGAIN Kathmandu, 13 May: The government has urged the CPN-Maoist and other political parties opposing the election to sit for talks and discussions without any pre-conditions to seek a solution to the problems facing the country, RSS reports.. A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday made a public call on the agitating political parties to cooperate with the government in holding the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election within November. Talking to media persons after the meeting, government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Prasad Poudel said the government has intensified the election-related activities including creating political atmosphere conducive for the election with an aim of concluding it within November- December. "Election is the sole alternative to finding a way out to the ongoing political transition in the country", he said. It may be noted that the Council of Ministers has already constituted a consultation and coordination committee expecting positive support from all the political parties, civil society members and people to make the election successful. The objective of the formation of committee was to hold consultations and discussions with the political parties and convince them to take part in the election. "The government´s attention has been drawn towards the CPN-Maoist setting pre-conditions in a response to the official letter sent to the party inviting it for talks", according to a press statement issued after the meeting. "The CPN-Maoist like any other responsible political party setting pre-conditions for talks cannot be justifiable under any circumstances", the statement adds. The government said that it believed that solution to every problem is possible through talks and dialogue and called on the Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist and other allies who are against the upcoming election to relinquish pre-conditions and come for talks. Nnnn SEARCH OVER, BANGLADESH BUILDING COLLAPSE DEATH TOLL 1127 Kathmandu, 13 May:, Bangladesh: Nearly three weeks after a Bangladesh garment-factory building collapsed, the search for the dead is over at the site of the worst accident in the industry's history. The death toll: 1,127, AP reports from Savar.. The army turned over the site to civilian officials after going about a day without finding more bodies from the April 24 collapse. Amazingly, a survivor was pulled out on Friday as some of the last of the dead were being recovered. Bulldozers and other vehicles have been removed from the building site, which will be fenced with bamboo sticks. Red flags have been erected around the site to bar entry. The collapse of the Rana Plaza building has focused global attention on hazardous conditions in Bangladesh's powerful garment industry. nnnn
