CHAIRMAN REGMI, HLPC MEMBERS MEET SATURDAY Kathmandu, 8 June; Chairman of Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi is holding discussions with members of high-level political committee (HLPC) Saturday ro resolve difference on election issues between parties. Announcement of official dates for election has been delayed without such agreement. An agreement on election laws to conduct second constituent assembly elections in November/December was inconclusive again at a meeting of HLPC Friday. An agreement has been reached only on the size of the 491 proposed assembly. “We will reach an agreement in two or three days after discussions with Chairman,” UML chairman and chief of the HLPC said. nnnn. VICE-PRESIDENT JHA MEETS COUNTERPART IN BEIJING Kathmandu, 8 June: Vice-president Parmananda Jha held discussions on bilateral issues with his Chinese counterpart Li Yuanchao in Beijing Friday Jha is on an official China visit and arrived in the Chinese capital from Kunming where he participated in an expo. “China will provide assistance to Nepal on the basis of the priorities set by Nepal, Nepal’s Ambassador Mahesh Maskey,who was present at the talks said, according to Republica. “China will not be guided by anyideology when it comes to extending friendship with neighbouring countries and its leaders,” Maskley quoted as LO as telling Jha. The vice-president returns home via Shanghai Sunday. nnnn CAPITAL SATURDAY MORNING TEMPERATURE 20 DEGREES CELSIUS Kathmandu, 7 June: Saturday morning’s temperature at seven in the morning was 20 degrees Celsius. Mercury is expected to rise to 31 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. The capital recorded 30.6mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. nnnn
