RAPIST FATHER JAILED FOR 16 YEARS Kathmandu, 6 June: The District Court, Arghakhanchi, has given a verdict for 16 years and six months in jail to a person, who raped his own daughter, RSs reports fromArghakanchi. Jit Bahadur Khamcha of Simalpani VDC-5 raped his daughter on Teej festival day last year. A single bench of District Judge, Madhavendra Raj Regmi, gave the verdict of the jail sentence on the charge of incest. Record Keeper at the District Court, Govinda Ghimire, said the girl can get a compensation of Rs. 50,000 from the defendant through the government. Nnnn RAPIST OF US NATIONAL IN INDIA NEPALIS Kathmandu, 6 June:: All the three accused in the gang-rape of a 30-year-old US national in this Himachal Pradesh tourist resort, who were arrested early Thursday, were Nepali nationals, police said, The Himalayan Times writes quoting IANS from Manali in India.. The three arrested people are all truck drivers, identified as Arjun, Lucky and Som Bahadur, Superintendent of Police Vinod Dhawan told IANS. He said that although they were Nepali nationals, they had been living in the state for a long time. "Two of them were arrested from Patlikuhl (20 km before Manali) and one from Mandi town," Dhawan added. The victim, who reached this tourist resort along with three other women just a day before the crime, alleged that she was early Tuesday repeatedly raped by three men, who offered her a lift late in the night when she could not find a taxi. Police said the men drove the woman to a secluded spot where they raped and robbed her. Meanwhile, a team of forensic experts collected samples from the scene which were sent for examination. "The victim's medical examination report confirmed sexual assault," Dhawan said. The police Wednesday seized the vehicle used in the crime. This incident brought back memories of 2009, when an 18-year-old British volunteer teacher was raped by two cab drivers in Palampur town of Kangra district. nnnn RS,20B REVENUE COLLECTED Kathmandu, 6 June: Revenue collection reached Rs. 19.99 billion as of Mid-may in the current fiscal year along with a collection of Rs. 3.98 billion in the non-tax sector, RSS reports.. Likewise, the month of Baisakh (April/May) recorded an increase in revenue collection by 37.88 per cent. During the period this fiscal year, revenue worth 46.74 billion was collected in compared to Rs. 33.9 billion last year. Similar growth was also recorded in Value Added Tax (VAT), Excise Duty and Income Tax collection in the period so far this fiscal year in comparison to the previous fiscal year, according to information shared at an evaluation meeting at the Ministry of Finance on Thursday. On the occasion, Finance Minister Shankher Prasad Koirala directed concerned officials to work as per the action plan and also to start preparing for the budget for the new fiscal year. Chief Economic Advisor to the Ministry Dr Chiranjibi Nepal lauded the encouraging revenue collection but urged all sides concerned to work to make it sustainable. Finance Secretary Shanta Raj Subedi called upon the revenue and customs officials to identify the areas of revenue leakage and work to stop it. Nnnn NOC MAY PROFIT RS. 285M Kathmandu, 6 June: The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) made a profit of Rs 285 million in May thanks to decrease in fuel price in the international market, RSS reports.. The NOC calculates its profit and loss on 1st and 16th of every month. NOC's spokesperson Shiva Prasad Pudasaini said that the NOC made Rs 200.8 million in profit in the calculation of May 1 and Rs 84.3 million in May 16. Earlier, the NOC had incurred over Rs. 160 million in loss in April. Similarly, Pudasaini said that the NOC is likely to incur Rs 33.8 million in loss in June due to rise in US Dollar exchange rate. The NOC imports petroleum products and LP gas from Indian Oil Corporation based on a price in the international market. nnnn
