REVENUE COLLECTION TRGET MET Kathmandu 26 June: Government collected Rs. 256.46 billion in in 11 months of the current fiscal year 2069/70. Rs. 225.85 billion was collected in tax revenue and Rs. 31.61 billion grom m non tax revenue sources. Nnnn RELIEF. FOR FLOOD, LANDSLIDE VICTIMS DISCUSSED Kathmandu, 26 June: A meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Tuesday reviewed the relief provided to the flood victims of the Far Western and Mid-Western Development Regions, The Rising Nepal reports.. In the meeting, Officiating Chief Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota instructed the secretaries of the Home, Finance, Urban Development, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Health and Irrigation ministries to carry out the relief distribution task more effectively. Baskota urged the secretaries to work in accordance with the cabinet decision of June 21, immediately provide Rs. 35,000 each to the completely displaced families and initiate the reconstruction and rehabilitation works. The floods and landslides triggered by the recent flash floods affected life in 21 districts, mostly in the Far and Mid-Western Development regions. According to Baskota, 39 people died and 17 went missing in the floods and landslips in Darchula, Dailekh, Doti, Baitadi, Humla, Kalikot, Dolpa, Dadeldhura, Bardiya, Siraha and Salyan districts. Seven people were injured in the floods. He said 582 houses were completely damaged while 1,057 were partially destroyed by the floods and landslides affecting 6,879 persons of 2194 families. According to Baskota, 20,000 chlorine tablets and 2100 bottles of Piyush (water purifier) were dispatched to Darchula, the worst flood hit district, to purify drinking water. Task to construct public toilets was in the progress in the flood affected area, he said. "We have sent 500 quintal sugar, 230 quintal rice, 280 kg Chiura, five quintal pulse and 500 litres cooking oil to Darchula," Baskota informed. Likewise, works to repair the spurs and embankments of the Mahakali River has begun in Darchula, and in Chadani and Bhujela areas in Kanchapur district. Similarly, works to repair the 300-metre embankment in Karnali River has begun, he said. District hospital in Darchula resumed its services and the government sent 370 kg medicines to the flood affected areas. nnnn MIDDLE MODI POWER PROJECT GETS GOVT. PERMIT Kathmandu,m 26 June: The government has provided generation license to Middle Modi Hydropower Project located in Parbat district in west Nepalm The Rising Nepal reports.. The 15.1 MW hydropower project is going to be constructed by Middle Modi Hydropower Limited. Gokarna Raj Pantha, senior Divisional Engineer of Department of Energy Development (DoED) said that the department provided generation license to the project after it completed the feasibility study, environment impact assessment (EIA) and power purchase agreement (PPA) within the stipulated timeframe. The DoED had provided generation license to the project five years back. “The department provided generation license to the project on condition that the project will manage financial closer within one year. The validity of the generation license is 35 years,” he said. The cost of the project is Rs.2.3 billion. The project also includes construction of 4 Km long132 KV transmission line which will connect the power generated by the project in Modi Sub Station, he said. The project aims to start power generation within five years from now, he said. “The generation license will be canceled if the project is unable to seek investors within one year. But, DoED will renew its generation license if its sees progress in financial closure within stipulated time,” he informed. Similarly, the DoED has decided to grant survey license of Likhu Khola Hydropower Project located in Solu, Okhaldhunga and Ramechhap district. According to Pantha, this project was going to be studied by PK Hydropower Private Limited. He said that the department granted survey license for one year at first. “The department will renew the license until five years if it sees progress in the works of the project,” he said. Around 63 projects which have 1,906 MW capacities, are under construction with generation license from the DoED, he said. nnnn
