Three others were injured, two seriously, in a rock fall. nnnn MAOIST SPOKESMAN SAYS REGMI SHOULD CONTINUE AS CJ Kathmandu, 1 June: Unified CPN-Maoist Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota has expressed the confidence that a meeting of the high-level political committee scheduled for June 3 will forge consensus on all disputes issuesm RSS reports.. At a regular face-to-face meeting with journalists at UCPN-Maoist central office at Parisdanda, Spokesperson Sapkota claimed that the political parties will reach to a consensus within June 3 and subsequently concentrate their efforts on election. Stressing that no side should work in a way to defer the election in any pretexts, he further said problems are prevailing when the high-level committee coordinator does not call meetings and Nepali Congress (NC) President abstains from the meeting in various pretexts. NC President is trying to digress the electoral process by putting forth a proposal that the Interim Election Council of Ministers Chairperson Khil Raj Regmi should resign from the post of Chief Justice lately, he blamed. The Spokesperson further said that Regmi will not resign from the post of CJ as demanded. He went on saying that all political parties should move ahead in keeping with the spirit of 11-point political consensus and 25-point difficulty removing charters agreed earlier. The provision of voters' threshold in the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections will in no way be agreeable to them, he said, adding that the proposal has been put forward with the malafide intention of disrupting election. He also said that the election date was postponed based on suggestions of the student leaders after the election environment foiled due to dispute among the students organisations. Nnnn NC’S PAUDEL, LIKE DEUBA, ALSO AGAINST REGMI RESISGNATION AS CJ Kathmandu, 1 June: At a time some political leaders have raised voices, demanding the resignation of Chairman of election Council of Ministers, Khil Raj Regmi, as Chief Justice, Vice-President of the Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Paudel, has said once Chairman Regmi resigns as Chief Justice, it would create problems in government and Constituent Assembly electionm RSS reports. "It is a constitutional provision that incumbent Chief Justice becomes the Chairman of the election Council of Ministers. And, once he resigns from the CJ post, it would create new problem as who would be the head of government. Therefore, CA election must be held within third week of November to give political outlet, and rid the country from further crisis," he stressed. Speaking at a programme organised by Nepal Student Union's Lamjung-Kathmandu Liaison Committee in the Capital today, leader Paudel said party President Sushil Koirala had not demanded Chairman Regmi's resignation but given suggestion to the Chairman Regmi to address the demands of agitating parties including Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist. Moreover, Vice-President Paudel said there are several countries including Greece and Bangladesh which had the election under the leadership of Chief Justice. It was quite condemnable on the part of some legal practitioners and civil society representatives to object to the present government, he added. "The Baneshwor gathering of the civil society representatives was condemnable," he said, adding that it was against republic, against democracy. Similarly, he said he would fight under the direct election in the coming CA election disregarding what the top leaders do.
