CPN MAOIST WORKERS ARRESTED FOR ANTI-ELECTION DRIVE

July:: Two CPN-Maoist cadres were taken into police custody on Tuesday
afternoon for their involvement in anti-election wall graffiti, RSS reports
from Lalitpur..
Those arrested are Shyam Bajracharya of Patan Dhoka, Lalitpur and Srijana Kiranti of Solukhumbu. They were taken into custody after they did not heed to the repeated request to stop writing wall graffiti calling for a boycott of the CA elections at the roadside wall in front of Hotel Himalaya this afternoon, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Ram Dutta Joshi. Meanwhile, the CPN-Maoist Lalitpur has said that seven cadres escaped the baton charge by police and came to its contact. Following the incident, the Kupandole-Pulchowk road remained tensed and blocked for traffic for some one and a half hour while shops closed down. |

NC TRAINING CAMP CONCLUDES
Kathmandu,30 July: The four-day-long national
training of trainers (ToT) conducted by the central policy and training academy
of the Nepali Congress targeting the election to the Constituent Assembly (CA)
concluded Tuesday, RSS reports..
Addressing the concluding ceremony, Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the upcoming election was not for forming the new government but for drafting a democratic constitution and the democratic forces should be victorious.
He claimed that the NC would be victorious if cadres reach the people´s doorsteps by being united and winning the people´s trust.
Similarly, NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel said that election would be held irrespective of CPN-Maoist joining or boycotting the election.
Poudel claimed that casting vote for the NC was strengthening the democracy.
On the occasion, General Secretary duo Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula urged the successful participants of the TOT to generate a wave in favor of party in the upcoming CA election.
As many as 300 representatives from all the 75 districts attended the ToT programme.

ELECTION NATIONAL NECESSITY SAYS MAOIST CHIEF

July: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that election to the
Constituent Assembly (CA) was now a necessity to safeguard country´s national
prestige and empower the citizens, RSS reports..
Addressing a condolence meeting to pay tributes founder member of Nepal Communist Party Nar Bahadur Karmacharya in the capital on Tuesday, the UCPN (Maoist) Chief said that the CA election would be held at any cost.
"Efforts are being made to deinstitutionalize the achievements of people´s war and people´s movement. So election should be made successful at any expense. In this campaign, unity of nationalist and communist forces is necessary."
He also said that efforts would be made to unite all communist forces adding that communist forces hold more than two-thirds support in the country.
Dahal who is also the coordinator of the High-Level Political Committee said that maximum efforts would be made to bring the agitating parties on board electoral process.
He also warned of agitation under the UCPN (Maoist) leadership if conspiracy against the upcoming election was hatched.
On the occasion, Dahal said that late Karmacharya was an exemplary figure of sacrifice and integrity and recalled that Karmacharya during his last days of life suggested the communist revolutionaries to unite.
Likewise, civil society leader Shyam Shrestha said that Karmacharya´s dreams would come true only if people´s expectations were fulfilled.

VOTE AT ANY COST SAYS KOIRALA

July: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said everyone has the
right to not take part in an election, but not to foil it, RSS reports from
Nepalgunj..
During his interaction with the party cadres at Banke constituency No.1 on Tuesday, leader Koirala said the Constituent Assembly (CA) election would be held on the announced date even if some boycott it. "Election is the significant democratic right of the people", he said and added those who intended to obstruct the election would be boycotted by the people. Now we all should hold positive discussions about the election issues. "Those people who have been stating that election will not be held want to push the nation towards anarchy", NC President Koirala said. Efforts are being made to bring the opposing parties to a consensus, but election would be conducted at any cost, he added. Similarly, party central members Dil Bahadur Gharti, zonal coordinator Dilli Regmi, Dr Suresh Kanaudiya and student leader Bishwa Prakash Sharma stressed on the election to institutionalize changes in the country. Meanwhile, NC President Koirala today made a field inspection of the Rapti flood–affected Tepari at Holiya VDC in the district. On the occasion, the flood victims complained of lack of proper shelter, assistance and long-term project to control the floods. |
