TIMBER SMUGGLERS EXCHANGE FIRE WITH GUARDS

Kathmandu, 26 July: Timber smugglers and sentries guarding the forest area near Bishrampur VDC in Rautahat district exchanged fire this morning, RSS reports from Rautahat..
A team of forest guard s retaliated after a gang of armed smugglers coming from Sarlahi district opened fire at them near the forest, which falls under the supervision of Brindaban Range Post.
The armed smugglers and the forest guard s fired several rounds of bullet, according to the District Forest Office.
However, no human casualty has been reported in the incident.
District Forest Officer Baburam Bhandari said the forest patrol team seized seven pieces of logs left by the smugglers, who fled the scene after opening fire at the sentries.
Meanwhile, a timber smuggler has been arrested from Kanakpur in the district.
According to the District Forest office, Shekh Maulad of Kanakpur VDC-6 has been arrested along with logs.
