TRADE UNION CHIEF AFFILIATED TO TERAI PARTY
ELECTED IN CAPITAL
Kathmandu, 21 July:Federation of the Free Democratic Trade Union Nepal, Kathmandu branch, elected an 11-member district committee led by Pawan Adhikari,  RSS reports..

The meeting chaired by Chairman of the Rastriya Madhes Socialist Party, Sharat Singh Bhandari, elected Parbati Lamichhane as Vice-chairperson, Jiwan Shrestha as Secretary, Parbati Sapkota as Assistant-secretary and Balram Bhurtel as treasurer of the committee.

Similarly, Nirmala Shrestha is the Assistant-treasurer while Rajendra Nagarkoti, Sabita Sukubhat, Prakash Rayamajhi, Debaki Basnet and Rakesh Khadgi are the other members of the committee.

KUSUNDAS SETTLING DOWN
Kathmandu, 21 July: Kusunda people, who live by hunting in forests in western Nepal, have been of late attracted towards modern living style, RSS reports from Dang..

The Kusunda people have started living in the society by building homes in the villages and have adopted modern living style of late.

The Kusunda people have started consuming milk and eating milk products though in the past, they had the belief that they should not consume milk and milk products.

The youths of the Kusunda people would not hesitate to take milk and milk made goods though some of the elderly people in this community still hesitate to live as per modern lifestyle, said Chairman of the Kusunda Development Society, Dhan Bahadur Kusunda.

Chairman of the Society, Dhan Bahadur said that Kusunda people have a total population of around 300 across the country. He said, "Kusunda community has been attracted towards farming of late as they are now aware that they should work to survive in this modern age."

The society has been active to alert and make the youths from the Kusunda community aware besides running different programmes from the government and non-government organisations.

They have already been provided with the sanitation training and climate change related knowledge. Similarly, the Kusunda people have been taking up goat farming, candle-making, and sewing and cutting, among other skill-oriented works in various phases as per their interests.

"I have taken training of sewing and cutting, as I realised that anybody needs to be self-reliant to survive," said Fani Kusunda (22) of Ghorahi Municipality-5. Fani had taken a three-month-long training of sewing and cutting from a local organisation.

They have been attracted towards education and are found going to school. Indrasen Kusunda of Khadre, Halbar VDC-9 in the district goes to Class 12 while Sangita Kusunda of Ghorahi-6 studies at Class 11.

Some other children from Kusunda community are going to English medium schools. The local schools have been providing all facilities for education to encourage Kusunda children, said Chairman of the Society, Dhan Bahadur.

The government has also constructed houses in different places in Ghorahi Municipality, Halbar VDC, Chaulahi VDC and Hapur VDC of Dang district to settle them and encourage them towards modern way of life.
