UPDATE FORMER MAOIST FIGHTERS JOIN NA

Kathmandu, 5 July:  Altogether 1,352 former Maoist combatants formally

joined a separate directorate in Nepal Army )NA) Friday after completing

courses at eight centers of the state army nation0wide

Seventy-one officers are undergoing training run by NA at Kharipati and

will join around mid-September,

Twenty-one soldier cadets dropped during training, NA said.

Altogether 479 former combatants underwent training at Trishuli-based

Training Centre, 191 in Saljhandi, 80 in Itahari and 85 in Khairenitar.

Similarlym, 86 underwent training at Nepalgunj-based centre, 173 in

Hile, 87 in Surkhet and 171 at No. 5 Training Battalion

PRACHANDA RETURNS TO CAPITAL

Kathmandu, 5 July: Maoist Chairman Prachanda returned to the capital from Dhulikhel Friday.

He prepared a report on party organization there to be presented at a plenum 19 July

The plenum has been called into session following differences at central committee where there was intense rival for party positions as Vice-chairman

Baburam Bhattarai resigned.
