CHAIRMAN REGMI AND BANGLADESH AMBASSADOR HOLD
DISCUSSIONS

Kathmandu 26 July  Newly-appointed ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, Ms. Mashfee Binte Shams, called on Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Khil Raj Regmi, at his office in Singha Durbar, on Friday, RSS reports..

On the occasion, Chairman Regmi congratulated Shams on her appointment as the Bangladesh ambassador to Nepal and wished her a successful term.

During the meeting, Ambassador Shams expressed the view that it would be appropriate to work in collaboration for the development of hydroelectricity and eradication of poverty which is a common problem in the entire SAARC region, including Nepal and Bangladesh, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers stated.

Chairman Regmi expressed that mutual cooperation could be expanded in the areas of hydropower development, trade and education.

SEEKING ELECTION ALTERNATIVE UNFORTUNTE SAYS NC’S
SITAULA

Kathmandu, 26 July: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula has said that all sides should go together for election as it will be inapt to seek an alternative to election at the moment, RSS reports.

Inaugurating the first general convention of Democratic Agriculturists´ Association Nepal in Lalitpur on Friday, general secretary Sitaula further said the achievements attained through the People´s Movement can be protected and the changes it ushered in could be institutionalized.

"The election is sure to happen. It will be meaningless for the country to search for alternative. It is highly required for the development of the country rather than a particular party," Sitaula added.

Nepali Congress (NC) central member and party´s Agriculture and Cooperative Department Chief Bal Krishna Khand said the conception that the most incompetent people should get into agriculture has stopped the development of agro industry.

He also recommended the experts to formulate country-friendly agriculture.

Another central member Gagan Thapa said that there was no attraction towards agriculture for no easy arrangement of loan for profit-making enterprises.

Agriculture Ministry Secretary Jaya Mukunda Khanal said the glamour of this sector will go up if returns are attained as per the investment.

On the occasion, Bhairab Raj Kaini, Dr Siddi Ganesh Shrestha, Dr Mahendra Khanal, Kushal Poudel and Surya Prasad Poudel had presented working papers on the issue of promoting agro sector.

NC general secretary Sitaula made public an agriculture book ´Sambriddi (Prosperity)´ brought out by the Association.

At the programme, former minister Deepak Prakash Baskota, Registrar at Agriculture and Forestry University Surya Kanta Ghimire, Chairperson of Democratic Lawers´ Association Yadunath Khanal and former Secretary Ganesh KC said that the government has been unable to provide necessary resources, means and skills for the development of agriculture sector.

TWO FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESMEN

Kathmandu, 27 July: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assigned additional responsibility to Joint Secretary duo Deepak Dhital and Kali Prasad
Pokharel, RSS reports..

Chief of the UN Section at the Ministry, Dhital has been allocated the additional responsibility of the spokesman and Chief of the South Asia Division, Pokharel the additional responsibility of Chief of Protocol.

The Council of Ministers recently promoted Senior Joint Secretary and spokesman Arjun Bahadur Thapa to the post of Secretary after Foreign Secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai was appointed as the Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations.

Joint Secretary Dhital has been appointed in place of Thapa while the post of Chief of Protocol was lying vacant following Chief of Protocol Niranjanman Singh Basnyat´s appointment to the post of Nepal´s Ambassador to Malaysia.

Newly-appointed Foreign Ministry spokesman Dhital informed journalists about the new appointments at the regular news conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
