DHADING TRUCK ACCIDENT KIILS ONE, INJURES SEVEN

LANDSLIDES AFFECT VDCs IN MYAGDI
Kathmandu, 27 July:: Most of the VDCs in Myagdi district are found to be affected from landslides each year, RSS reports from Myagdi..

Of the 41 VDCs of Myagdi, 38 were found affected from large landslides except for Arthung, Bim and Takam VDCs, the District Soil Conservation Office said.

District Soil Conservation Officer Diwakar Poudel said most of the landslides affected VDCs were Mudi, Rum and Lulang, as per the study of the office.

Of the total land, 10,034 hectares or 15,929,015 cu m volume has been occupied by landslides, said Poudel. As the district's 60 per cent land is more slanting than 60 degrees, it is most problematic, he said.

Study showed farming without making terraces in slant land, road not environment friendly has caused 35,000 tones of fertile soil to be swept away in landslides affecting agriculture production.

The office said forestation and embankment are prioritised. Meanwhile, relief has been distributed to landslide victims of Ward No. 1 and 2 in Pakhapani VDC.

The District Natural Disaster Relief Committee had provided the amount through District Administration Office, and six households got Rs. 20,000 per family for displaced and Rs. 10,000 as relief for affected, said Headmaster of Amar Secondary School Pakhapani Yu Kumar Garbuja.

The relief was distributed by district administration staff Kri Bikram Sharma amidst a programme presided over by VDC Secretary Krishna Bahadur Biswokarma.

Similarly, Milan Myagdi, an organisation has provided Rs. 40,000 for landslide control in Aula village.

UML LEADER NEPAL TALKS WITH INDIAN COMMUNIST LEADERS
Kathmandu, 27 July: CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, who is currently on a visit to India, has held ´breakfast´ meetings with Indian communist
Leaders, RSS reports..

Leader Nepal called on various Indian leaders including general secretary of Marxist Party DB Tripathi, Indian Communist Party´s joint general secretary Pallabsen Gupta, International Department Chief Devrat Biswas, left leader Prakash Karant and Forward Block secretary Devraj.

During the meet, matters related to latest political situation of Nepal and India and bilateral realtions were discussed, said the former Prime Minister Nepal´s personal secretariat.

Earlier, leader Nepal had delivered a speech reflecting contemporary political situation of Nepal while attending a programme organized by Indian Council for World Affair on Friday.

Former Prime Minister Nepal had expected possible cooperation from neighboring countries including India to make the November 19 Constituent Assembly (CA) election a success. The programme was chaired by former Indian Ambassador to Nepal Dev Mukharji.

Nepal is accompanied by UML general secretary Ishwor Pokharel and member of party International Department Rajan Bhattarai. Nepal is set to return home on Sunday.
