UCPN MAOIST KHURSHID TALKS UPDATE
Kathmandu, 9 July: The top leadership of the
Unified CPN (Maoist) and Minister of External Affairs of India, Salman
Khurshid, held talks on Tuesday, RSS reports..
In the meeting held at Hotel Dwarika´s at 2 p.m., the Indian Minister said that every type of support would be provided on behalf the Government of India for institutionalizing Loktantra in Nepal. Stating that India has goodwill for peace and prosperity of Nepal, the Indian Minister for External Affairs Khurshid expressed the belief that Nepal would move forward in a new political direction through the election to the Constituent Assembly, according to UCPN (Maoist) Foreign Department Chief, Ram Karki. Khurshid expressed his happiness that the CPN-Maoist which was opposed to the election process has also shown flexibility for seeking solution to problems through dialogue and negotiations. He added that India was hopeful that all the political parties in Nepal would participate in the election, Karki said. Mentioning that the Indian government was ready to provide assistance as per Nepal´s priorities, Khurshid stressed that Nepal´s stability, peace and prosperity were the major issues. UCPN (Maoist) Foreign Department Chief Karki stated that they expressed the belief that Nepal-India relations would move ahead in a new way in the coming days since he [Khurshid] was a person who understands the feelings of Nepal and the Nepalis well. Present in the meeting were UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, vice-chairmen Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, organization department chief Krishna Bahadur Mahara and party leaders Barshaman Pun, Karki and Hisila Yami. Chairman Dahal´s visit to India couple of months back also figured during the talks in the meeting that lasted for about half an hour, Karki said. |

NEPAL SOUTH KOREA
DISCUSS BEGINNING RAILWAY SERVICE
Kathmandu, 9 July: Senior government officials of Nepal and Korea,
here on Tuesday, held talks on matters regarding the establishment of Railway
Service in Nepal,

The talks held between the 12-member delegation of the Department of Railway of Korea led by Lee Jong Kuk, Director General of Railway and Safety Planning, and a Nepali team led by Tulasi Prasad Sitaula, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management concentrated on the proposed Railways and Metro Development Project. The Korean team arrived in Nepal on Sunday.Secretary Sitaula told RSS that the discussion centered on the possible support from the Korean side in the present context when Korean technicians are providing consultations to the government on the proposed Mechi-Mahakali Electronic Railway. It was the first meeting held at the government levels to identify areas of mutual cooperation in establishing railway service in Nepal. The next meeting will be held next year in Korea, said Sitaula. The Korean side has responded positively to support Nepal in this regard, he added. During the meeting, the Nepali team urged the Korean delegation to provide support also in tourism, hydropower, infrastructure development including the rail service, said Secretary Sitaula. Senior officials of Department Railways, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Physical Planning and Transport Management attended the meeting. |
