NEPALI WORKERS RETURN FROM DARJEELING
Kathmandu, 13 Aug.: Hundreds of Nepalese migrant workers have started returning home after an indefinite strike demanding a separate Gorkhaland in Darjeeling, in India’s
West Bengal state, The Rising Nepal reports from Ilam..
The strike was called by Gorkha People’s Liberation Front (GPLF) in which locals have expressed their solidarity with the movement and are participating in the general strike.
Bhimraj Yonghang, a local resident of Darjeeling said that thousands of Nepalese workers have been returning home especially from areas like Kharsang, Mirik, Sukiya, Bijanbari and Kalengpong.
Milan Chhetri, secretary of Pashupati Bus Transport Association said that daily over 50 Nepalese are buying tickets to Kathmandu via bordering Pashupatinagar in eastern Nepal.
Chhetri said that there many migrant workers are from western districts of Humla, Jumla and Dolpa.
It is estimated that more than 30,000 migrant workers are living in West Bengal and engaged in different works.
Apart from workers, people from Nepalese living in Darjeeling are also facing problems due to the prolonged strike.
India’s West Bengal state government has already banned some local mass media in Nepali languages. Television broadcasts in Nepali language were also been banned.
Meanwhile, West Bengal government issued an ultimatum to call off the ongoing strike by Monday. However, Gorkha People’s Liberation Front, the main protest organizing committee, has clarified that the strike will not be called off.
Pashupatinagar Revenue Office and other market remained shut due to the continuing strike. Boarder Administration Chief Tajindra Gautam informed that the strike has affected normal life on the Nepali side as well.
Strike demanding a separate Gorkhaland state began in West Bengal after the central Indian government announced Telangana as a separate province recently.

meeting of Nepal China Tibet Trade Facilitation Committee (NTTFC) concluded
here on Monday, The Rising Nepal reports..
Established in 2009 for facilitating the bilateral trade in between Nepal and Tibet, the committee has been discussing the trade facilitating issues between Nepal and China since its establishment.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, the meeting discussed issues including procedural facilitation for optimum utilization of duty free and quota free facility provided by China to Nepal, its effective implementation and capacity enhancement of Nepali side.
The meeting discussed matching the working hours in between Tatopani Customs point of Nepal and Khasa Customs point of Tibet.
Both sides agreed to continue discussions on the issue in the coming days too.
The Nepali negotiation team was led by joint secretary Jib Raj Koirala and the Chinese team was led by Caidennanjie, deputy secretary general of Tibet
