DIPAK MANAGGE PRODUCED AT COURT
Kathmandu, 19 Aug.:  Notorious don Rajib Gurung aka Deepak Manange, who was nabbed by the police on charge of amassing property illegally, was presented before the Special Court for the second consecutive day on Monday, RSS reports..

Assistant registrar at the Special Court Keshav Prasad Ghimire said that hearing against Manange will continue on Tuesday at the joint bench of Chairman of the Special Court Kedar Prasad Chalise and members Manoraman Bhattarai and Bhupendra Prasad Rai. However, statement from alleged Manange has been completed.

As the hearing will continue on Tuesday as well, Manange and his wife Pasang have been kept in police custody, Ghimire said.

The Department of Money Laundering Investigation had filed a case against Manange and his wife Pasang on May 19 for allegedly amassing property worth Rs 147 million without known sources of income.

BRITISH ARMY TRAINING
Kathmandu, 19 Aug.: British Army  for the first time is providing five experts on
Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED  to assist the Nepal Army
Engineers  prepare for the United Nations operations in Mali, British embassy said,.

The experts, arrived Monday.

The team will provide training in Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Route Opening and War Material Removal training
to the NA personnel.

INDUSTRIES TO REOPEN
Kathmandu, 19 Aug.: All industries in the Birgunj-Pathlaiya corridor, which were closed since August 4 due to workers' strike, have reopened., RSS reports from Birgunj.

According to the President of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ashok Baidya, workers' strike had come to an end following an agreement between the agitating and industry management sides. Similarly, the Labour Court termed the strike 'non-legal', he added.

Although other industries were already open from the second week of August, Triveni 'A' Group and Hulas Steel Industries Pvt Ltd resumed the operation from today. Operation of around two dozen big industries in the corridor was halted for around ten days.

Industrialists here suffered a huge loss due to closure of their businesses. The corridor workers were on an agitation, demanding pay hike as fixed by the government.

EGYPTIAN MILITANTS KILL 24 POLICEMEN
Kathmandu, 19 Aug,:  At least 24 Egyptian policemen were killed and three wounded in an ambush by Islamist militants on Monday near the north Sinai town of Rafah, medical and security sources said, Reuters reports from Cairo..

The policemen were on their way to their barracks in Rafah, near the border with Israel, when militants attacked them with machineguns and rocket-propelled grenades, the security sources said. Earlier reports had said an explosion caused the casualties.

Attacks by Islamist militants in the lawless north Sinai region have intensified since the army overthrew Islamist President Mohamed Mursi on July 3.

At least 850 people, including 70 police and soldiers, have been killed in the past week in a crackdown on Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood, which says it renounced violence decades ago.
