JP GUPTA TELLS UN BODY HE FEELS THREATENED
Kathmandu, 1 Aug.:
Coordinator of the Terai-Madhes National Campaign Jay Prakash Prasad Gupta has
said that the government has put him under surveillance which has caused
insecurity and threat to him, RSS reports.
He has claimed that such surveillance will curtail his fundamental rights to free movement and dignified life.
Writing an open letter to UN OHCHR High Commissioner Navanethem Pillay on Thursday, Gupta has claimed that the Madhesi human rights defenders are at risk and will become more vulnerable at the time when protests are carried out by the Madhesi people.
Gupta has also urged the United Nations to resend its monitoring unit to Nepal to monitor the present human rights situation.
He also slammed the mainstream media and civil society organisations saying that they were dominated by the hill based ruling class and were ignoring the 'excessive use of force by the police in the Tarai'.
