YAN DISPUTE ESCALATES
Kathmandu, 20 Aug.
The warring sides in the Youth Association Nepal (YAN), the youth wing of the
CPN (UML), are waiting to bury the hatchet after the party leadership stepped
in to settle their dispute, RSS reports..
The YAN dispute flared after the central committee meeting of the establishment side held in Biratnagar on August 14 and 15 decided to ask for explanation from the association´s office-holders including Vice=president Jhapat Rawal who boycotted the meeting.
Some of the YAN´s office-bearers locked the association´s office at Bag Bazaar on Monday to press for the resolution of the dispute. The establishment side led by Mahesh Basnet opened the lock immediately after.
YAN secretary Kiran Pouidel who is considered close to the establishment side played down the incident and said that the obstruction was not to the extent that came out in the open and the YAN office and activities were running smoothly.
He said that the CPN (UML) Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday will resolve the dispute and any decision taken by the party´s body would be acceptable to them.
UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal and general secretary Ishwar Pokhrel discussed the issue on Monday in which they agreed to call a meeting of the party´s Standing Committee to resolve the dispute in the YAN.
However, YAN vice-president Dil Panta who is close to the dissenting side led by Rawal said that the dispute would be settled if the president Basnet corrected his faulty decisions.
