MAOIST CHIEF THREATENS REVOLT IN CASES DURING
INSURGENCY REVIVED
Kathmandu, 21 Aug.:UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that his party will ‘revolt’ if the conflict-era cases are revoked against the peace process and the interim constitution, RSS reports., .

Speaking at a programme organised by the Young Communist League (YCL) here today, he said the efforts to revoke the cases that took place during the conflict and to stop popular candidates from taking part in the CA elections would invite a revolt in the country.

Any such case should be resolved through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, he added.

Arguing that a failure to win a two-third majority for the progressive forces led to the inability of the first CA to draft a new constitution, Dahal urged the youth to ensure that the progressive forces do not miss out the victory this time.

He said the CA election was a big opportunity to carve out the right destiny and future for Nepal and Nepali people, and thus it must be successful.

Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai said YCL needed to repeat its role of the past in making the CA elections successful.

“The party is now moving ahead in the path of completing the remaining task of the popular revolution,” he added.

He also warned of taking action if the conflict-time cases were revoked or any leader or cadre was arrested for that reason.

Another leader of the party Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the role of the YCL was important in preserving national freedom and bringing epochal changes to the society.

MUBARAK RELEASE ORDERED
Kathmandu, 21 Aug.:An Egyptian court ordered the release of former President Hosni Mubarak on Wednesday, a judicial and a security source said, meaning he could leave prison later in the day as there is no longer any legal grounds for his detention, Reuters reports from Cairo.

Mubarak, 85, is being retried on charges of ordering the killing of protesters during the 2011 uprising that led to his downfall. However, he has already served out the maximum amount of pretrial detention permitted in that case.

Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison last year for failing to prevent the killing of demonstrators. But a court accepted his appeal earlier this year and ordered a retrial.
