By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 5 March: Minutes after stepping on Nepali soil after high-level discussions with top Indian officials, including foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee, finance minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said Tuesday ‘criminal’ elements were sheltering in India after committing crimes in Nepal.
He was referring to armed groups of Jwala Singh and Jai Krishna Goit conducting separate movements in the south bordering India which has refused to hand-over activists even as they conduct operations across the border from India.
Dr Mahat said government will begin a crackdown and ‘suppress’ them ahead of the 10 April assembly elections.
Dr Mahat revealed foreign minister Mukherjee, during a meeting with him, assured ‘criminal elements’ won’t receive shelter in India.
Sujata, daughter of prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala, implicitly confirmed the deep involvement in bringing the government and terai rebels together for elections.
Sujata flew to New Delhi Monday to deliver her father’s personal thank you message to Mukherjee for his ‘crucial role to resolve the tarai problem” and ‘ to honour him for his role”, The Himalayan Times reported Wednesday quoting Sujata.
