Indian, US ambassadors flouting norms: Maoists
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 19 March: Nepal’s election code of conduct doesn’t permit ruling parties to initiate development during electioneering; the ban makes sense.
Ruling parties could easily draw votes by initiating such projects wwhen the country is in the midst of election.
Foreign ambassadors in Nepal constitute a are breed; they get off with the most outlandish deeds.
When there’s such a ban on Nepalese ministers, Indian ambassador couldn’t care less because he probably thinks be is beyond the law; he shouldn’t go about murdering people to which he is assigned because he has immunity.
He is expected to obey and observe rules and regulations applicable to Nepalis.
But Indian Ambassador Shib Shankar Mukherjee Wednesday laid the foundation of health facility at Saptari and delivered a political statement helping the government.
Mukherjee said India will crush anti-election elements.
He went to Saptari, one of the hottest troubled district, to lay the foundation for a project funded by the Indian government andthe district, one of the hottest and most troubled and said anti-election elements from the tarai aren’t operating from across the border from his country.
Former UNDP resident representative Matthew Kahane knew better because he asked India to lend a helping hand for humanitarian work in Nepal by talking with such self-exiled people to desist from obstructive activities to facilitate the work of the UN.
Kahane lost his Nepal job.
The embassy, in normal times, had been heavily funding projects in the terai to influence the area and the people there.
Mukherjee did what he did Wednesday as Maoists continued to accuse India and USA of interfering with elections against the CPN (Maoist).
Daily mouthpiece newspaper ‘Janadisha’ in its Wednesday editions said Mukherjee and US Ambassador were together in Biratnagar Tuesday where they ‘flouted’ diplomatic norms by their activities accusing them for coming ‘out openly’ in electioneering against Maoists to influence the vote.
The newspaper reported they were staying in the same hotel in Biratnagar and visiting villages in Sunsari and Saptari Monday/Tuesday extending financial help.
