Eight including candidate killed even after campaigning ends (BREAKING NEWS)

Kathmandu, 9 April: One CPN-UML candidate was killed and at least five others were killed when police shot dead seven Maoists who were involved in clashes with a Congress candidate overnight in the far-West.
Curfews were immediately declared in Surkhet-1 and Dang were violence erupted; fresh reports said curfew in Dang was lifted at seven in the morning Tuesday after being slapped at 10.30 overnight.
CPN-UML candidate Rishi Prasad Sharma died of injuries he sustained in a clash with the Congress in Surkhet even after end of campaigning one day earlier; many voters have been abducted and killed during the campaign.
One communist candidate was killed during campaigning in Nepalgunj earlier.
Clashes have broken out mainly between Congress, CPN-UML and Maoists during electioneering.
In the worst election-related violence so far, six Maoist YCL were also killed and at least 16 others were injured in a police firing in Lamahi, Dang.
Four persons died on the spot, is two died in hospitals in Bhirahawa and Butwal where they were rushed among with more than 16 others injured.
Maoists earlier clashed with Congress workers working for congress candidate Khum Bahadur Khadka whose vehicle was attacked.
There was widespread destruction of property before the firing which broke out when guards of Khadka were fired on, a Radio Nepal reporter said.
YCL had been overpowering people in two places in the district before the firing.
Candidates have been campaigning under heavy police escort.
Government and the international community are pushing elections despite widespread pre-election violence; 16 Kathmandu-based foreign ambassadors and representatives of international institutions Monday called for elections while calling for an end to violence for a free vote Thursday.
A 10-hour vote will start from seven in the morning Thursday.
Rebels in the terai have disturbed the vote mainly in the east tarai with a strike pushing anti-government and anti-election campaigns and Maoists aren’t allowing rival parties in the hill districts.
Voter turnout is expected to be extremely low and below the national average of 64 percent in national elections.
The legitimacy of a constitution to be drafted by the proposed 601-member assembly will come into question with a low turnout.
The curfews and the fresh death of a candidate in Surkhet and Dang will mar and re-schedule voting in areas where they have been declared.
Government, it appears, is determined to conduct the vote pushed mainly by India and USA.
Government apparently has plans to hold repoll in areas where violence break out even with Nepal Army intervention which has been kept on high alert.
