Maoists establish early lead in vote counting

Kathmandu, 11 April: USA asked all to accept Thursday’s constituent assembly election result as Maoists established an early lead in vote counting Friday.
Maoists lead in 13 constituencies; Nepali Congress and CPN-UML lead in three constituencies.
Maoists are leading is all three constituencies in Dang including a constituency where security guards of Khum Bahadur Khadka (Congress) shot dead seven Maoists and injured more that one dozen others one day before the vote.
Nepal Majdoor Kishan Party leads in two constituencies in Bhaktapur where the party has retained its traditional hold.
Sunil Prajapati, with 6,774 votes is certain to be elected; Chairman Narayanman Biujukakcgaya has a slim lead over a Maoist candidate in another constituency.
Madesh Janaadhikar Forum is leading in Banke-3 where Congress Acting President Sushil Koirala is facing almost certain defeat.
Chairman Prachanda leads in Kathmandu 10 and CPN-UML general Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal is trailing a Maoist candidate in another capital constituency.
CPN-UML is facing certain defeat in the Valley –its traditional stronghold.
Maoists are contesting elections for the first time after they launched a people’s war 12 years ago.
CPN (Maoists) accused USA and India for conspiring to defeat it.
In the capital, Congress has gained with a split in the communist vote although it didn’t affect the victory of Prakash Man Singh who got more votes than CPN-UML and Maoists combined.
CPN-UML and Maoists couldn’t forge an electoral alliance.
