An eventful Monday as CA meet fixed; other details
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 12 May: Monday was a very eventful day.
The first session of CA will meet 28 May.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Monday sent invitations to 601-elected members to attend the session at the Chinese-aided and constructed Birendra International Convention Center through letters to the 601 elected and nominated members.
Maoists are pushing to declare a republic even without a debate arguing the interim constitution has such a provision.
MJF Chairman Upendra Yadav has already said the first session can’t take the momentous decision because it will only be entangled in procedures of starting business without delving on substantive issues.
But Chairman of conservative RPP-Nepal Kamal Thapa Monday warned Nepal will encounter an unforeseen accident with the declaration of a republic even without drafting a constitution.
He ruled out the king going into exile in talks with him even with such demand by some political parties, including Maoists.
A hasty decision will invite an accident and reiterated the king can’t be removed even when a word of the constitution is not written.
Thapa said he has discussed this with other political party leaders.
For the king and queen Monday was a day of traditional family worship at Dakshinkali temple in the southern fringe of the Valley where the royal couple offered five animal sacrifices to Goddess Kali.
TIBET
Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Xianglin Monday asked the government to curb take strong action against daily Tibetan protestors in front of the Chinese embassy.
Zhang charged it almost like a drama to arrest refugees in the afternoon and release them at night.
He charged Dalai Lama is using Nepali soil for anti-China activities and even accused unnamed countries of financing the protests.
The refugees have no right to conduct politics from Nepal, the envoy argued.

Nepali Congress won’t join Maoists in govt.
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 12 May: It looks extremely unlikely—nay almost certain-- Maoists can assemble a coalition with other parties in the next 15 days as promised by Chairman Prachanda Monday.
Congress party of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Monday demanded Maoist weapons must be destroyed and the para-military YCL must be disbanded before the party can join hands with Maoists to form a post-election government.
The 10 CA election was inconclusive without any party getting a majority in the vote.
This means the Koirala government will continue because Maoists don’t have the support of two-third members of the 601-member CA to form a government.
CPN-UML central committee also decided Monday drafting a constitution and promulgation of a democratic republic were the party’s priorities and not government formation.
Journalists charged for corruption
Kathmandu, 12 May: Charges are being filed at the investigating agency CIAA next week for alleged irregularities in finances donated by foreign governments to the Federation of Nepalese Journalists.
The old committee led by Bishnu Nisthuri voted out this month after completing a three-year tenure will be charged for misuse of foreign funds.
Journalist Kedar Koirala said charges will be filed next week for improperly running donor-driven programmes.
