Nepali Congress youth meeting suspended

Kathmandu, 21 May: Why was the Nepali Congress youth meeting in all five regional headquarters suspended, asks Janaastha.
The proposed meetings were suspended on intervention of party leaders because they would inconvenience top leaders including Sushil Koirala, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
Meetings were planned in Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Pokhara, Neplagunj and Dhangadi from 20 to 28 May.
The main reason for the suspension was the speech of Gagan Thapa who told a preparatory meeting,” If the Congress is to be saved, struggle should be launched against kings and minor kings in the party and Dai [brother Sher Bahadur, Ram Chandra, Sushil ] and didi [elder sister] {Sujata] but also against bhauju [Arjoo].”

Nepal still a kingdom for South Africa

Kathmandu, 21 May: A scheduled programme of South African ambassador designate to present his credentials to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was cancelled at the last moment last week, Janaastha.
His credentials mentioned Nepal as a kingdom.
The ceremony has been rescheduled.
The ambassador in India is concurrently accredited to Nepal.

Nepal heading for major crisis: Kamal Thapa

Kathmandu, 21 May: RPP-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa said Tuesday the country is heading for a major crisis with the decision of three major
‘The country is heading for a major crisis because of political reasons of the decision of Congress, CPN-UML and Maoists on monarchy and republic; they are taking decisions like they change a government and prime minister.
“The future days will be challenging. Social and cultural traditions of hundreds of years will be lost, Thapa told party assembly members.
The big parties will regret the decision to go for a republic, he said.

Opponents of migration to USA attack vehicle

Kathmandu, 21 May: A vehicle of an international organization to transport 60,000 Bhutanese refugees from UNHCR camps in east Nepal was attacked and damaged in Morang Wednesday.
A vehicle was attacked two weeks probably by the same group in Jhapa two weeks ago even under government security.
Bhutanese Maoists are opposing the transfer and are demanding the return home instead.
Nearly 600 of 108,000 refugees have been transferred mainly to since the beginning of 2008.

YCL, demonstrators clash

Kathmandu, 21 May: In another proof of a breakdown of an agreement between major seven parties to rule through inter-party consensus, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and NMKP activists Wednesday joined anti-Maoist protests in the Valley.
The 12-point agreement brokered by New Delhi between the ruling parties in 2006 has broken after Maoists emerged as the largest party in the 10 April CA election.
Several dozen protestors opposing the brutal murder of a businessman at a UNMIN cantonment were injured Wednesday in clashes with YCL.
Protestors demanding an investigation of the abduction and murder clashed with YCL in the capital and Bhaktapur.
Maoists are saying rivals are politicizing the murder.
