Nepal on UN hunger list

Kathmandu, 13 Aug: US World Food Programme (WFP) has put Nepal on a list of 16 ‘hunger hotspots’ facing soaring food prices and will receive part of $214 million in food assistance, AFP reports from Rome.
Nepal has been enlisted along with countries like Somalia, Ethopia and Pakistan in South Asia.

Govt releases Rs 84 million for Maoist combatants

Kathmandu, 13 Aug: The finance ministry has released Rs 84 million for 19,618 Maoist combatants in 27 camps and cantonments under the watch on UNMIN, Nepal Samacharpatra reports.
The money is 14-month salary at Rs 42,000 per fighter.
Government received a World Bank grant to finance the pay for Maoists.

Leadership change in The Kathmandu Post, Kantipur

Kathmandu, 13 Aug: Narayan Wagle has resigned as editor of Kantipur tendering his resignation from Beijing where he is covering the Olympics for the largest selling vernacular newspaper, Janaastha reports.
Sudhir Sharma, editor of Nepal news magazine has been appointed by the new management of Kantipur Publications to replace Wagle.
Pratik Pradhan , editor of The Kathmandu Post, also tendered his resignation from USA.
Akalish Upadhaya , a former staffer of the newspaper, has replaced Pradhan.
