GP Koirala rejects PM Prachanda’s request to join govt.

Kathmandu, 21 Oct: Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala Monday evening rejected the request of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s request to join government in a 20-minutemeeting at the Koirala residence.
Prachanda and CPN-UML General Secretary Jhalanath Khanal had agreed in another meeting to request Congress to join government to improve party relations and facilitate the drafting of the constitution.
Koirala told Prachanda Congress will help government from the opposition bench.
Congress has been threatening to come out on the streets charging CPN (Maoist) for totalitarian tendencies.
The Congress has also been charging Maoists for abandoning the politics of consensus while opposing plans for the integration of the PLA with the Nepal Army.

Sarita Giri elected chairperson
Kathmandu, 21 Oct: Sarita Giri has been unanimously elected chairperson of Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Debi) to replace Ananda Debi.
Giri was elected by thefourth general convention currently meting on Lahan.
The party has removed he suffix Debi.

Maoist-CPN-UML agreement
Kathmandu, 21 Oct: CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist) have agreed to appoint Madhav Kumar Nepal coordinator of a high-level committee to coordinate activities of the coalition partners, according to CPN-UML leader Bharaat Mohan Adhikari.
Ruling coalition partners will be represented in the committee.
The two largest parties in government also agreed to form a special committee to integrate Nepal Army and PLA opposed by main opposition Nepali Congress.
CPN-UML favours only selective integration of Maoist combatants only.
The two parties Monday also agreed to expand the government before tihar.

Mohan Baidya Kiran again opposes party name change

Kathmandu, 21 Oct: Top Maoist leader Mohan Baidya Kiran again opposed removing the suffix Maoist from the party’s name differing with Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai.
“In our party’s context, changing the party’s name isn’t relevant,” Kiran told Naya Patrika Tuesday.
“The word Maoist is the party’s identity,” he said. ‘It is the recognition is 10 years of sacrifice.”
He said the internal party debate on a name change shouldn’t have been made public.
“Attempts are being made to defame revolutionaries in the party. The main question is whether the party getting bogged down in reformism. Will the party be weakened in meeting the goal of the proletariat?
“Will the party waver in the fight for national sovereignty? Will the party be a victim of rightwing opportunism? There are many such concerns” Kiran said in reply to a question: You are considered leader of hardliners in the party.
“There is a concern whether the party will slip politically. The concern is to make the party revolutionary,” the party organization chief said.

GP Koirala claims former king and Prachanda can come together

Kathmandu, 21 Oct: Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala said Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and former King Gyanendra could come together again.
“Before the 12-point agreement between seven parties and Maoists, Maoist Chairman Prachanda met then King Gyanendra and proposed a united government by jailing multi-party leaders. There’s such a possibility on that basis.
“I had my suspicions then. The question still comes in my mind now. They can come together,” Koirala said and added the then king revealed the meeting to the former prime minister.
