USA confronts Dr.Baburam Bhattarai
Kathmandu, 20 Oct: Finance Minister Baburam Bhattarai was confronted by an American official asking him to reveal the identity of the killers of two security guards serving the embassy about seven years ago, newsfront reports.
A dumbfounded Bhattarai who was recently in Washington DC to attend a meeting of the World Bank Board of Governors quietly listened to the angry concern of the official who had served in Nepal as deputy Chief of Mission a few years ago.
There seems to be a lot of rage and concern in the US regarding the incident and they want that the Maoists bring the ‘killers’ to justice.

Prachanda in minority in party
Kathmandu, 20 Oct: The CPN (Maoist) is facing its worst crisis after heading the government for four months, as an overwhelming majority of the rank and file seems ganging up against Prime Minister and Party Chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal, calling him a ‘revisionist’ and ‘power hungry’, newsfront reports.
There are speculations that Prachanda might be reduced to a minority when the Party holds its three day national conference begging November 10.
At least eight of 11 members of the central committee have sided with senior ideologue Mohan Baidya who asserted that ‘people’s republic’ has to be the party’s immediate goal and not a distant one, as stated by Prachanda.
A victory of Baidya will have serious implications on Prachanda’s leadership; both in the party and government, as well the country’s peace process and politics.
Priminent leader and Finance Minister baburam Bhattarai has given a fresh missile to Baidya.
Bhattarai said in Washington recently and reiterated it back home that it was about time that the party must get rid of its Maoist tag.
‘The two are becoming more like revisionists,” a prominent party leader told newsfront.
Baidya challenges Prachanda’s line that a ‘democratic republic’ alone could bring other political parties together with the Maoists.
The issue of people’s republic cannot be compromised as thousands of youth shed their blood for it. Baidya said.
Former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa called for a democratic front to fight Maoists on a power grab, The Kathmandu Post reports.
“Politically the Maoists now control all of the country. The Nepal Army remains their lone hurdle on their way for the power grab,” Thapa told the newspaper.
He termed the US position to support the Maoist-led government while continuing to put the CPN (Maoist o) on the terror list ‘ a correct’ diplomatic move.
“Atrocities by the Maoist sister organizations continue. India needs to be vocal too.”
