Chinese military team coming

Kathmandu, 14 Nov: A eight-member Chinese military team with two major generals in arriving on a five-day visit 19 Nov., Kantipur reports.
The team will hold discussions with Home Minster Bamdeb Gautam, Defence Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Rukmangud Katawal and Defence Secretary Baman Prasad Neupane.
Earlier, Badal visited China when Beijing offered Rs 100 in military assistance.

Nepali appointed in top WFP position

Kathmandu, 14 Nov: Dr Suresh R. Sharma, a graduate of Tribhuvan University, has been appointed Inspector General and Director of World Food Programme’s (WFP) Oversight Services Division at is Rome Headquarters, WFP said.
He began his career in WFP as a budget analyst in 1989.

RBB earns Rs 374m net profit

Kathmandu, 14 Nov: Rashtra Banijya Bank (RBB), Nepal’s largest wholly owned state bank, earned a Rs 374 million net profit in Q1 of the current fiscal year 2008/09 that begins mid-July.
The bank earned Rs 162 million in the previous year corresponding quarter and a Rs 1770 million net profit in fiscal year 2007/08.

WHO to help Nepal

Kathmandu, 14 Nov: Responding to Nepal’s request for help in testing for adulteration in imported Chinese milk products, the WHO has agreed to provide the logistic support to the government to conduct tests for melamine contamination, Prabhakar Ghimere reports in the Kathmandu Post.
Uttam Kumar Bhattarai, director general of Department of Food Technology and Quality Control said the UN health agency was providing sophisticated lab equipment to do comprehensive quality testing of the imported materials at different customs points.

Pressure horns banned in Valley

Kathmandu, 14 Nov: Pressure have been banned in motor vehicles in all three districts of the Valley, Annapurna Post reports.
Traffic police Thursday started a special campaign.
Police started pulling out horns in vehicles Thursday.
In the first phase, horns are being out from buses and minibuses.
