Has more details on Maoist central committee meet

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 17 Nov: CPN (Maoist) organizational chief Mohan Baidya Kiran Monday presented at a central committee meet a separate political report demanding an immediate people’s republic to cap the gain of a people’s war declared by the party 11 years ago.
But Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s group pushed for what now has been termed a ‘republic in emergency’ refining a concept for a federal democratic republic to consolidate the gains of the movement that toppled monarchy in April 2005 with the subsequent declaration of a republic by the CA.
Separate reports were presented without discussion Monday, party Spokesman Krishna Bahadur Mahara said.
Discussions will begin Tuesday.
The crucial meet began ahead of a national workers’s meet to be held Thursday; the national meet will take a final decision on the differing perceptions that have surfaced.
CP Gajurel said the Kiran faction is also demanding appointment of an acting party president after Maoists formed a government under its leadership.
PM Prachanda is resisting calls to give up the post of party chief after heading a government.
For the first time separate and differing perceptions have been presented at a central committee meting, analysts said confirming a deep division in the party on the future course the CPN (Moaist) should take.
Kiran faction has accused Prachanda faction for being revisionist after assuming state power.

Bamdeb Bautam again says Maoist cab be army chief of integrated national army

Kathmandu, 17 Nov: Home Minister Bamdeb Gautam, considered soft on Maoists, said Monday a Maoist can head an integrated national army.
He argued in Chitwan if Maoists can head a government why can’t they head an organization.
The issue of integration of the PLA with Nepal Army has become a serious and emotive issue.
Maoists demand integration to complete the peace process while main opposition Nepali Congress is now opposed to integration.
Major coalition partners of Maoists are also opposed to mass integration.
Gautam’s CPN-UML has adopted a stiffer attitude to Maoists than the leader of the party team in government.
