Maoist candidate certain to be elected CA vice-chairman

Kathmandu, 28 Nov: Maoist woman candidate
Purna Kumari Subedi is certain to be elected vice-chairman of the CA with the support of CPN-UML and at least two other parties in the 601-member assembly.
CPN-UML is the third largest party in the assembly and is a partner of the Maoists in government.
The election process has started; results will be announced later Friday.

British army chief arrives

Kathmandu, 28 Nov: Chef of Army Staff Gen Rukmangud Katawal held discussions with visiting Chief of the General Staff of the British Army Gen Sir Richard Dannatt.
Gen Dannatt arrived Friday for a visit confirming the restoration of ties between the armies of the two countries after April 2005.

Unexpected wild buffalo calf birth at zoo


Kathmandu, 27 Nov: Birth of a wild buffalo calf has elated officials at the Central Zoo, The Kathmandu Post reports.
The calf was born to seven year-old mother Sharwani and her 17-year-old mate, Koshi, on Nov.9.
“The birth was unexpected as the bull was too old for breeding,” said Binab Karmacharya, veterinary doctor a the zoo.
