Maoist woman candidate elected CA vice-chairman

Kathmanndu, 28 Nov: Maoist woman candidate Purna Kumari Subedi was elected vice-chairman of the constituent assembly (CA) Friday by a majority 346 votes, an announcement said.
Altogether 505 members of the 601-member assembly voted.
Candidatures of five other contestants were rejected by majority vote; altogether five women contested; six candidates were in the fray.
Subedi was sworn in by Chairman Subash Nemwang after her election.

Om Babadur Kuber elected

Kathmandu, 28 Nov: Om Bahadur Kuber was elected Friday CA member on behalf of the CPN (Maoist).
The seat was vacated by Organization Chief Mohan Baidya Kiran to devote his time to party work.
Kuber, from Dang, was nominated by the party for the closed list.
His election was announced by the Election Commission on recommendation of the CPN (Maoist).

60 industries closed in Makwanpur

Kathmandu, 28 Nov: Altogether 60 industries in Makwanpur closed down Friday as workers affiliated with Maoist unions demanded increased salary commensurate with hikes announced three months for government employees.
Half a dozen industries are located outside he Hetauda Industrial Estate.
Some industries are running.

Danish foreign minister arrives

Kathmandu, 28 Nov: Danish Foreign Minister Dr Per Stig Moller, who arrived two days behind schedule, held separate discussions on bilateral issues with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav.
Moller flew in from Singapore; he flew to the island republic escorted by military aircraft from Bangkok en route to Kathmandu after being stranded in the Thai capital for two days.
Government opponents captured two airports disrupting flights.

Congress anti-Maoist rally in Pokhara Saturday

Kathmandu, 28 Nov: Senior leaders of Nepali Congress, including President Girija Prasad Koirala, arrived in Pokhara Friday to participate in Saturday’s anti-Maoist rally dubbed national awareness campaign.
Three other urban rallies were held in Biratnagar, Birgunj and Nepalgunj.
The main opposition has used the rallies to gather public support for a campaign against CPN (Maoist) charged for perceived authoritarian rule.
The honeymoon between Nepali Congress nurtured in 2004/2005 with Indian help snapped after Maoists defeated Koirala’s party in the 10 April CA elections.
Koirala was ousted from power by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda souring Prachanda/Koirala relations that may ultimately adversely impact national politics.
