Nepal assures Beijing anti-China activities will be curbed

Kathmandu, 3 Dec: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda assured China’s Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi during hour-long talks Nepal won’t permit its soil to be used for anti-China activities.
The assurance was appreciated, the PM’s foreign advisor Hira Bahadur Thapa said.
Yang invited the prime minister and Foreign Minister to visit China in 2009 at a date to be fixed later.
During the meeting, the minister offered Nepal a $200 million soft loan.
He congratulated PM Prachanda on the progress in the registered in the peace process and the successful conduct of the April CA elections.
China Wednesday gave Nepal a Rs 1.2 billion economic and technical assistance Nepal.
An agreement was signed after bilateral talks between Yang and his Nepalese counterpart Upendra Yadav.
Yadav confirmed China has offered Nepal training for security personnel and equipment to enhance security.
“Chinese foreign minister was positive” to Nepal’s request, Yadav said, and added equipment support will be identified later.
Yang said Tuesday China will honour the political change in Nepal propelled by the massive participation of the Nepalese people.
Monarchy was toppled in April 2005 and a republic was declared after the April 2008 constituent assembly elections.
China didn’t intervene on behalf of monarchy at its hour of crisis in April 2005 even though it was generally believed Beijing supported monarchy in Nepal.
Beijing, Yang said, will support Nepal’s stability and economic development.

Foreign Minister Yang begins construction of second Nepal-Tibet road

Kathmandu, 3 Dec: Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jeichi Wednesday began construction of he second highway linking Nepal with Tibet.
Nepal and China agreed to construct the road in 2007 for which Beijing has earmarked Rs 1.2 billion.
The road will link Kerung in Tibet with Safrubesi with a 16 km road.

Govt. expands political coordination committee; other details

Kathmandu, 3 Dec: Government expanded Wednesday expanded a six-member political coordination committee to 12 members by including two members each from three smaller parties in the ruling coalition.
Maoist Law Minister Law Minister Deb Gurung will head the committee pending another decision.
The smaller parties objected to two seats CPN (Maoist), CPN-UML and Madesh Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) apportioned to themselves earlier.
The expanded committee will meet Thursday.
Health Minister Girirajmani Pokhel and Lilamani Pokhrel of Jamanamorcha, Laxman Lal Karna and Ram Naresh Raya Yadav of NSP and Sunil Manandhar from another splinter communist group; the other member from the party will be nominated Thursday.

Govt. forms probe committee to investigate journalist murder

Kathmandu, 3 Dec: Cabinet Wednesday formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the murder of Karnali journalist Jagat Prasad Joshi.
The committee is headed by Advocate Umesh Prasad Gautam and has advocate Saligram Sapkota and journalist Mahendra Bista as members.
The cabinet is considering to compensate family members of Joshi.
Cabinet Wednesday discussed formation of commissions on land reforms and missing persons without coming to a decision.
Som Prasad Ghimere will head a task force formed by Water Resources Ministry to suggest how 10,000 MW can be generated inside the country in the next 10 years meet the country’s power needs.
