At least 12 persons killed in three vehicular accidents

Kathmandu, 12 Jan: At least 12 persons were killed in two vehicular accidents Monday in and Palpa and Bardiya while two dozen passengers were injured.
Seven persons died in Palpa and four passengers were killed in Bardiya in a direct collision with two vehicles.Accidents were reported from Palpa, Bardiya and Chitwan.

Major parties agree on sharing chairmanships of committees of CA

Kathmandu, 12 Jan: In a breakthrough, four parties in the constituent assembly (CA), also a parliament, agreed Monday to share leadership of CA committees drafting the constitution and 10 parliamentary committees.
Elections are being held Tuesday for leadership of 14 committees to draft a constitution and 10 parliamentary committees.
Nominations were filed Monday for leadership of the committees.
Only one candidate filed nominations for leadership of 12 committees ensuring unanimous vote.
Maoists were originally expected to head seven committees, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML five committees each.
Terai Madesh Lokantrik Party (TMLP), CPN (ML) and RPP were to head one committee each
Elections are being held Tuesday for leadership of 24 CA and parliamentary committees.
Unanimous election of former CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal is not ensured for chairmanship of the important constitutional committee after his candidacy was challenged by a fringe party.
Major parties still support Nepal ensuring his election.

PM Prachanda not visiting Denmark for anti-American front

Kathmandu, 12 Jan: PM Prachanda will be visiting two Scandinavian countries this month to develop an ‘anti-imperialist’ front after a decision of the Maoist central committee.
Maoists central committee has concluded in its last meet, USA descried as an imperialist power, a an international front must be created against USA which still puts Maoists on its terrorist list even after winning the 10 April CA elections defeating parliamentary parties.
Prachanda won’t visit Denmark as originally planned, Nepali diplomatic sources said.
He was originally scheduled to visit Scandinavian countries Norway, Denmark and Finland.
Prachanda now leaves for leaves week-long official visits of Norway and Finland Saturday.
Efforts are being made to organize an official visit to Belgium where a Left government cancelled arms sale to Nepal Army during the royal regime before 2005.
Belgium hosts the biggest Nepali Maoist community in Europe.
Scandinavian countries have lent direct support to the communist movement in Nepal while Washington still puts Maoists on its terrorist list.

Nation-wide protests against murder of woman journalist

Kathmandu, 12 Jan: Nation-wide protests were held Monday against murder of radio journalist Uma Singh in Janakpur overnight demanding security.
Protestors in the capital said government didn’t provide immediate transport facility to treat Singh in the capital..
Nation-wide condolence meetings are being held Tuesday.

Prison riot in Bhairahawa

Kathmandu, 12 Jan: At least one dozen prisoners and police were injured in a clash at a prison in Bhairahawa Monday.
Prisoners were demanding increased facilities.

Industries re-open in Morang, Sunsari

Kathmandu, 12 Jan: An agreement was reached Monday in the capital in a talk between management and Maoist labourers to provide Rs 190 minimum wage for labourers in Morang and Sunsari.
A eight-day labour strike has ended and 500 industries will resume production immediately.
