Govt. decision to shift integrated services partially withdrawn

Kathmandu, 1 Feb: Amid growing public and political protests, the Maoist-led government Sunday withdrew a decision to shit them in four terai districts, including Mohottari.
The decision came after an agreement between Maoists, CPN-UML and MJF.
The home ministry said Sunday a decision had earlier been taken to move such centers in 52 of the nation’s 75 administrative districts.
Clashes continued in Jaleshwor, for the third successive week Sunday, protesting a government move to shift the center to Bardibas in the same district.
Several protestors and policemen were injured.
But residents in Bardibas also Sunday protested the government
decision to maintain the center in Jaleshwor.

Schedule meeting of cabinet not held
Kathmandu, 1 Feb: A scheduled meeting of the cabinet couldn’t be held Sunday.
There was no agreement between three major parties in the ruling coalition led by Maoists.
CPN-UML and MJF have come under criticism in the press for agreeing to promulgate three ordinances.
The cabinet was expected to issue ordinances on the establishment of a truth commission and another on disappearances.
The delayed cabinet is expected to meet Monday.

Top Maoist leader says India instigating terai elements (BREAKING NEWS)

Kathmandu, 1 Feb: Top Maoist leader Mohan Baidya Kiran identified India and said Nepal’s southern neighbour was inciting trouble in the south.
He charged unnamed elements on terai are working on India’s instructions.

The charge came the same day ‘feudalists and imperialists’ are intervening in Nepali affairs.
Government Spokesman and Communication leveled the charge.
The charges come after Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee
confirmed charge New Delhi played a leading a leading role in negotiating an agreement between Maoists and seven parliamentary parties to topple Nepal’s 238-year monarchy in the Indian capital in early 2006.
Meanwhile, Unified CPN (Maoist) secretariat Sunday empowered PM Prachanda to form a task force and find a resolution to terai demands.
The secretariat met after a two-day meet of the party to address terai concerns ‘scientifically’.
Speakers at the meeting in Bhaktapur rejected a demand for One Madesh, One Pradesh.

Jhalanath Khanal repeats charge Maoists are fascists
Kathmandu, 1 Feb: CPN-UML General Secretary Jhalanath Khanal for the second time in two days repeated a charge Sunday ruling coalition partner and leader of the government Unified CPN (Maoist) were fascists.
He told this to party workers at the party office in the capital.
Communists are being defamed by Maoists, Khanal charged.
CPN-UML will try to transform them ideologically, Khanal said.
The repeated charge came as Maoists and CPN-UML agreed not to exchange public charges in public.

Special committee on army integration inactive
Kathmandu, 1 Feb: A special integration committee on armies, a vital component of the peace process, is completely inactive even one month after its formation, Annapurna Post reports.
It hasn’t yet started work.
Bhim Rawal, UML representative in the committee, said no formal appointment has come on his nomination to the committee and said he hadn’t even been informed of the committee’s terms of reference.
Mohammad Habibulla said the committee met only once for cursory discussions.
Another member Dr Manindra Rijal of Nepali Congress confirmed the committee met once on 16 January.

Prachanda thanks Ian Martin
Kathmandu, 1 Feb: PM Prachanda Sunday thanked Ian Martin, Special Representative of the UN secretary for this role at UNMIN’s chief.
The thanks was conveyed at farewell meeting.
Main opposition Nepali Congress has charged Martin for being pro-Maoist—a charge denied by Martin.
