Maoist Baburam Bhattarai charges former King Gyanendra, Girija in Delhi to restore ‘regression’ (BREAKING NEWS)

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 15 March: Controversial Maoist Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai Sunday charged former King Gyanendra and main opposition leader Girija Prasad Koirala were in India to restore ‘regression and monarchy’.
He didn’t convincingly explain his accusation.
Bhattarai, in an interview with Kantipur, attempted unsuccessfully the Maoist toppling of a 238-year monarchy with Indian help bases for eight of 10 years from Indian soil.
‘The king was removed from the palace. Parliamentary parties have been reduced to their sizes. They aren’t ready to accept the changes. They have gone to India for help.
‘They have gone to India to request help. But their mission won’t succeed, we feel,” Bhattarai told the newspaper. “They haven’t been able to accept changes. They have gone to New Delhi to restore regression.”
The finance minister also claimed the controversial 12-point New Delhi agreement between seven political parties in 2006 and Maoists was prepared by Maoists rejecting a claim of Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukjerjee who said India brokered the peace agreement.
But other sources said the 12-point agreement was drafted in Hindi by India and forced on the parties.
He didn’t explain the repeated visits by Indian leaders to push the agreement.
Bhattarai also said the former king is in India to restore the concept of a baby king.
Main opposition leader Girija Prasad Koirala, who returned home Sunday after a five-day India visit meeting central leaders in the Indian capital said he didn’t go to India with a political agenda..
“Why shouldn’t I go to India with a political agenda. Bu it’s out agenda. Maoists are afraid of their own agenda,” he told reporters after returning home Sunday.
“Why should I meet Gyanendra in India. It can happen in Nepal,” he said in reply to a question he had gone to India to meet the former king.
‘Maoists are responsible in the delay in drafting a constitution whichis their responsibility,” Koirala said..
Koirala didn’t meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh or Sonia Gandhi personally despite attempts.
Bhattarai has become controversial in the party for releasing a draft of a constitution without intra-party discussion; he’s personally leading a campaign against India visit of the former king and political party leaders even while Maoists launched a people’s movement based from India and with the help of New Delhi.
Besides Indian Foreign Minister Mukherjee, other Nepali leaders have acknowledged Indian help in brokering the 12-point peace agreement between Maoists and seven political parties.

Muslim, govt. talks inconclusive

Kathmandu, 15March: Government, Muslim talks Sunday were inconclusive amid agreement to continue talks Monday.
Muslims are pressing demands including a call for a census to determine their exact population in a largely Hindu country.
Talks were extended for ‘inadequate homework’ from both sides.
Muslims are pressing demands as Tharus successfully pushed demands for recognition of their independent status from Madeshis.
