Delayed debate on govt. policy and programme begins

Kathmandu, 12 July: Maoists Sunday morning boycotted the delayed debate on government policy and programme after Dr Babauram Bhattarai gave the party’s reasons for staying away from the legislature.
RPP-Nepal and Upendra Yadav faction of MJF presented their amendment proposals; eight parties have presented amendments.
Yadav faction Saturday disrupted proceedings Saturday demanding the parliamentary party office occupied by the party’s Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar faction which agreed to vacate the complex.
The policy and programme will be put to vote Sunday evening after a brief discussion after which the economic survey report 2009 will be presented.
The government has prepared a Rs 287 billion budget for he next fiscal year, The Kathmandu Post reports.
The upcoming budget was given final shape by a team of experts and finance ministry officials Saturday night.
According to sources, the revenue target for the new fiscal year has been projected to be Rs 175 billion. The budget deficit will be made up through foreign and internal loans.
According to finance ministry source, the government is increasing their [civil servant] allowances. But the increase will not be all that great.
The budget will also announce incentive to those willing to marry widows, and similar incentives will also be given to those-non-Dalits who marry Dalits.
The income tax ceiling for individuals has been fixed at Rs 175,000, up from the earlier ceiling of Rs 115,000 and Rs 200,000 for couples, also an increase from the current Rs 140,000.
The budget for 2009/10 is being presented Monday.

Nepal qualify for Asian Games

Kathmandu, 12 Nepal women cricketers Saturday qualified for Asian Games after defeating China by 73 runs in the ACC Twenty20 cricket tournament in Kuala Lumpur.
Nepal bowled out China for 30 runs after scoring 103 runs.

Kumar Mohan Bahadur Shahi de-listed from defaulters list

Kathmandu, 12 July: Kumar Mohan Bahadur Shahi has been de-listed from a list of defaulters after repaying Rashtriya Banijya Bank (RBB) Rs 110 million in principle and interest.
Also de-listed were Gopal Bahadur Shahi and Prakash Bahadur Shahi of Himalayan Brewery Ltd.
