Vote on accounts approved unanimously

Kathmandu, 15 July: Parliament Wednesday unanimously approved a vote on accounts after a two-day debate.
Finance Minister Surendra Pandey furnished replies to points raised by lawmakers.
Pandey said government will consider recommendations raised during the debate.
Parliament was adjourned until 19 July.
Maoists boycotted the vote.

Civil servants defy prohibitory orders; continue protests

Kathmandu, 15 July: Civil servant unions affiliated with main opposition Maoists and ruling parties CPN-UML and Nepali Congress defied prohibitory orders and staged continuous protests for the second day Wednesday demanding salary hike.
The defiance by civil servants at Singha Durbar was unprecedented and disturbed government work.
They staged corner meetings after one in the afternoon.
Officials threatened to continue protests until demands for salary hike to meet rising inflation hovering around 13 percent annually.
The strike and support for it by top three parties in and out of government has raised problems for the government.

Chairman Prachanda sick

Kathmandu, 15 July: Chairman Prachanda is suffering food poisoning, his son Prakash was reported as saying by a radio network Wednesday.
Scheduled Maoist central committee has been postponed, Maoists said.
