Cholera, diarrhea claims six more lives

Kathmandu, 8 Aug: Cholera/diarrhea claimed six more live in the mid-West Friday, local health officials said.
Three died in Jajarkot, two in Rukum and one in Accham.
The epidemic in recent years has claimed more than 300 lives in mid-and far-West in three months.

Team selected for ACC T20 cricket tournament

Kathmandu, 8 Aug; Twenty-three players have been selected for the ACC Twenty20 Elite cricket tournament being hosted by UAE from 4 to 13 November.
Paras Khadka, Paresh Lohini, Dependra Chaudhary, Gyanendra Malla, Pramod basnet, Basanta Regmi, Shakti Gauchan, Rahul BK, Amrit Bhattarai, Pushpa Thapa, Ajay Rajbanshi, Mehboob Alam, Raj Kumar Pradhan, Binod Das, Anil Mandal, Sanjam Regmi, Binod Bhandari, Prem Budal, Chandra Saud, Naresh Budhayer and Mahesh Chetri were selected by the Cricket Association of Nepal.
Nepal is participating in the tournament for the second time.
Training camp begins in October.

Several reasons for cholera outbreak in mid and far-West (Excerpts)

Kathmandu, 8 Aug: The village is on a hilltop. There are no toilets. In Jajarkot water is collected from the river for drinking.
“Only after one member of the family gets cholera, water in the jar is then purified.
“This problem cannot be solved until consciousness is raised amongst locals on cleanliness.
“The problem is not new. The problem was there in previous years.
“Government is busy distributing medicines in kilos. People started getting sick immediately after the monsoon.
“Government is unloading health workers like cargo. They are lifted by helicopter and nothing else is done.
“Helicopters land only where there is security. In many places villages are a day’s walk from the helipad.”
New problems have cropped.
“In Jajarkot, Salyan and Rukum ,locals hijack health workers asking them,” Come to our village.”
