Chatraman Singh Gurung formally installed army chief

Kathmandu, 9 Sept: Lt. Gen Chatraman Singh Gurung was promoted and formally installed Army Chief by president Dr Ram Baran Yadav Wednesday to succeed Gen Rukmangud Katawal who retired after completing a three year tenure.
Gurung was appointed for three years in the presence of the cabinet and senior officials as specified in the constitution.
President overturned a Maoist Prachanda government diktat directly appointing Lt Gen Kul Bahadur Gurung by sacking Katawal—a move that triggered a political crisis ending with the ouster of the Prachanda nine-month government..
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said Wednesday integration of 19,000 Maoist combatants was the government’s priority for which high-level political understanding was needed.

New constitution draft to be ready by 5 Nov.


Kathmandu, 9 Sept: A revised schedule approved by constituent assembly Wednesday says a draft pf a constitution should be readied by 11 committees by 15 November.
Committees didn’t meet a target to submit drafts by Wednesday.
The schedule to launch a constituiob by mid-may remains unchanged,

India encroaches 600 sq kms of Nepali territory

Kathmandu, 9 Sept India has gobble dup 600 square km Nepali territory, survey expert Buddhi Narayan Shrestha told a parliamentary committee Wednesday.
Altogether 35,000 hectares has been encroached on in Kalapani, Shrestha.
The border problem should be resolved politically, senior government officials said.
India is pressing Nepal to sign strip map[s prepared by two countries which New Delhi says will solve 98 percent of border claims.
Nepal is not agreed.
