Girija says future of govt. depends on how PM Nepal functions

Kathmandu, 3 Sept: Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala said Thursday the future of the government depends on how Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal conducts himself.
Koirala gave a clear hint he isn’t satisfied with the functioning of Nepal and implied the three-month government could fall.
Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar also said last week Maoists could stage a comeback.
Nepali Congress is a coalition of Nepal’s CPN-UML.
Koirala cut short a three-day visit to his hometown Biratnagar and returned to the capital one day earlier Thursday.
Koirala hinted at the possible fall of the Nepal government while talking to reporters at Biratnagar before emplaning.
‘I’ll return to Biratnagar not as prime minister but in another capacity,” Koirala said in rely to a question whether he will head a successor government of Nepal.
Rumours of a government collapse gained momentum when all Nepali Congress ministers absented themselves from an oath taking ceremony for fresh government entrants Wednesday.
Nepal didn’t implement Koirala’s recent request to promote daughter and Foreign Minister Sutata to deputy prime minister.

Protests galore

Kathmandu, 3 Sept: Nation-wide strike called by eight groups, including Tharus, disrupted life in life in many parts of the country Thursday.
They accused government of not implementing demands for autonomy and also protested special security plan of the government to crackdown on what has been called criminal groups.
Maoists stoned a car of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal who drove to Basantapur Thursday to attend Intra jatra celebrations.
Three policemen and demonstrators were injured.
Maoists in the morning also protested the appointment of two Indian bhattas at Pashupatinath and warned their opposition to the appointment of Indians will swell if Nepali priests aren’t appointed.
