Prachanda to address Kathmandu rally
Kathmandu, 11 Sept: Chairman Prachand will address a rally in th capital later Friday to drum up support for what their campaign for the restoration of civilian supremacy after a Maoist-led government was toppled by a 22-party coalition more than four months ago.
Maoists are pushing a national government under its leadership to complete a derailed peace process; Maoists are pushing such a government without which they argue the process can’t be completed.
Maoists launched the national drive last week from Biratnagar, the hometown of Girija Prasad Koirala.

Twenty bodies have been recovered.

China to help in three projects
Kathmandu, 11 Sept: Nepal and China Thursday signed and exchanged letters in Beijing on three Chinese-aided projects during the visit of Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala ahead of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal’s arrival alter this year.
The letters were exchanged by Sujata and her Chinese counterpart Yang Jeichi.
China has agreed on a project to clean vehicles and equipment, develop an inspection station at Tatopani on the Nepal-Tibet border and conduct a survey for Kathmandu ring road.
Nepal is likely to visit the northern neighour after returning from New York where he’ll address the annual general assembly session.
China has agreed to increase annual assistance from 100 million to 150 RML this year.
Sujata asked for a one million US dollar soft loan to implement three development projects without firm Chinese commitment.
He asked China to ease visa restrictions for Nepaliis visiting, living and working in Hong Kong.
A study on the feasibility of extending the Beijing, Lhasa rail link to Nepal will be prepared by China.

Army chief to launch meet of division chiefs
Kathmandu, 11 Sept: Two days after appointment, Army Chief Gen Chatraman Singh Gurung is scheduled to inaugurate a meeting of six division chiefs in the capital Friday.
The meeting will discuss future strategy and plans.
Addressing nearly 1,000 officers and men at army headquarters Thursday Gen Gurung said NA will prioritize training in his first year in office; he was appointed for the years.
He said a center of international standard will be operated to train personnel at home.
In a populist move, the chief said, ‘Arrangements will be made immediately to dispatch beds to replace bunkers
In a written 11-page address, Gurung said an airbase will be developed at Surkhet to fight natural disasters endemic in the mid and far-West.
Army, he said, will push for greater involvement in UN international peacekeeping operations.
The NA will support government to draft a delayed constitution.
“Maintaining its apolitical character, Nepal Army will support the government in constitution drafting process and the peace process,” Spokesman Brig Gen Ramindra Chhetri quoted the chief as saying.

Four terai leaders arrested in Bihar face possible extradition
Kathmandu, 11 Sept: Four leaders of Madesh Rashtra Janatantrik Party arrested by Bihar police Thursday in Darbangana face possible extradition to Nepal Friday, Indian police said.
Group’s acting president Ram Babu Yadav, spokesman Ram Brikshya Mahato and central members Ram Narayan Yadav and Ram Bilas Yadav were arrested and are lodged at a police station in Jayanagar across the border.

CPN-UNL central committee meet demand to discuss rivalry
Kathmandu, 11 Sept: Five party leaders Thursday asked Jhalanath Khanal to immediately convene a central committee meeting op discuss a bitter personal rivalry between the chairman and influential leader KP Sharma Oli.
Khanal and Oli have publicly been exchanging personal abuses even after a call by the party to end public airing of differences and grievances.
Khanal has been accused of dictatorial tendencies and being close to Maoists wile Oli has been charged for indiscipline.
The differences heightened after Oli supporters of Kathmandu district were sacked by the party
Arun Nepal, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Rajendra Gautam, Dr Bijaya Paudel and Yogesh Bhattarai demanded the meeting.

EBL profit Rs 451.2 million
Kathmandu, 11 Sept: Joint venture Everest Bank Ltd (EBL) announced a Rs 451.2 million net profit in fiscal year/2008.09—up 37 percent compared to the previous year.
The bank’s board Thursday recommended 30 percent bonus shares and 30 percent cash dividend for shareholders.
The bank now has 35 branches after an outlet was opened Thursday in Thamel.
