Three-party meet starts

Kathmandu, 2 Oct: A scheduled meeting of three parties to discuss a common resolution to end a four-month deadlock began at the parliamentary party office of CPN-UML late Friday afternoon as scheduled.
Top leaders of the Nepali Congress and Maoists were not present at the meeting to draft a common resolution which Maoists say should censure the ceremonial president for intervening to retain sacked Army Chief Gen Rukmangud Katawal at the request of 18 political parties more than four months ago.
Katawal was sacked by the Maoist-led government of Prachanda who is now demanding what he and his party call supremacy of civilian rule.
Nepali Congress, Maoist and CPN-UML talks teams are headed by Acting Congress President Sushil Koirala, second Maoist vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha and CPN-UML leader Yubaraj Geywali.
