Attempt to dissolve constituent assembly: Dr Baburam Bhattarai

Kathmandu, 25 Nov: Maoist Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai said Wednesday at a programme in the capital counterrevolutionary and regressive forces are attempting to dissolve the constituent assembly.
Bhattarai warned his party will fight and foil the attempt.
Maoists are the largest party in the assembly and parliament with 601 members.
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal threatened several days ago to dismiss the assembly while continuing with parliament.
The assembly is charged with the responsibility to draft a constitution by 28May 2010.
The deadline may not be met with fundamental differences between major political players of fundamentals to be incorporated in the basic law.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said Wednesday parties are discussing a high-level political mechanism, to end the current deadlock
Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal discussed such a mechanism during hour-long talks to satisfy Maoists.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress Acting President Sushil Koirala supported President Dr Ram Baran Yadav for retaining sacked Army Chief Gen. Rukmangud Katawal.
Koirala said Maoists would have captured state power without the presidential move.
