Maoists declaring two more autonomous republics

Kathmandu, 16 Dec.: Maoists are declaring two more autonomous republics Wednesday.
Chairman Prachanda is personally declaring a Newa autonomous republic in the capital and Tamsaling autonomous region is being declared in Rasuwa.
Two autonomous areas, including Bheri /Karnali region, were announced Tuesday amid protests and opposition of other parties.
Maoists have announced 13 autonomous areas.

Army chief, Indian defence minister discussions

Kathmandu, 16 Dec.: Army Chief Gen.l Chatraman Singh Gurung Tuesday met Defence Minister A.K. Antony and discussed enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries.
Gurung, who is on a nine-day visit to India since Dec 11.
“Nepal is important to India. And the ties go back to history. However, due to Maoists authority in Nepal, there had been a lull in the bilateral military relations between the two countries. The Nepal Army chief called on the defence minister to discuss ways to enhance the cooperation,” INAS reports quoting a defence official.
”Counter-insurgency and Maoist advent is on the top of the agenda of the visiting Nepali delegation. The recruitment of the Nepali soldiers has resumed and we need to give fresh impetus to bilateral military cooperation,” the agency said quoting an unidentified defence official.
