Parsa assistant CDO shot injured, guard killed (BREAKING NEWS)

Kathmandu, 11 Jan.: Parsa Asssitant CDO Bala Bahadur Malla was shot and injured by activists of Samyuka Janatanrtik Morcha who raised his home Monday morning as he was preparing to go to office.
His security guard Ananta Raj Khadka was killed in the raid.
The Morcha took responsibility and said it has called off talks with government.
The Morcha expressed anger at the talk’s failure.
Malla is recovering at the Narayan Zonal Hospital where his condition is not serious.

Maoist leaders inspect areas encroached by India along border

Kathmandu, 11 Jan.: Three top Maoist leaders Monday began inspection of border areas encroached by with India as part of their fourth phase of anti-government and anti-president protests.
The main opposition has targeted India in their attacks for what they call foreign intervention in Nepal’s internal affairs.
Chairman Prachanda began his inspection in the far-West with the inspection of the Ttanakpur barrage and Bhramadev area.
He is scheduled to address a public in Mahendraaanagar laer Monday.
Then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala let India construct the barrage on Mahakali river the border with huge losses for Nepal in electricity and irrigation benefits.
Vice-Chairman Baburam Bhattarai is inspecting Susta in Nawalparasi where Indian has encroached Nepali land.
Second-ranking leader Mohan Baidya Kiran is addressing a rally at Pashupatinagar in Ilam.
The protests will continue Tuesday at two more points.

Birthday of King Prithvi Narayan Shah celebrated

Kathmandu, 11 Jan.: The birthday of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the founder of modern Nepal, was celebrated Monday amid demands to observe it as a national day.
The government of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala stopped celebrations honouring the king even as King Gyanendra reinstated parliament through ‘a political decision’ or essentially an illegal decision on demands of political parties fighting for democracy and rule of law..
The parliament has completed its tenure.
Calls have been made by top leaders of Nepali Congress and UML—parties that stopped traditional celebration of the late king’s birthday.
Law Minister Dr Minendra Rijal last week even attended and addressed a public function a in the capital extolling the contributions of the unifier of Nepal.

Another call to include PM Nepal is HLPM

Kathmandu, 11 Jan.: Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar also said Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal should also be included in the high-level political mechanism formed last week by Nepali Congress President Girija Prachanda, Chairman Prachanda and UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal.
Its formation has been questioned by leaders of the three parties that launched it.
“It’s essential to include the prime minister to promote the politics of understanding and consensus,” Gachedhar said before flying for Singapore for medical treatment Sunday.
He also called for the inclusion of his party in the mechanism.
Congress parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel also said the mechanism without the prime minister is meaningless.

Supreme court stay order

Kathmandu, 11 Jan.: A one-man bench of the supreme court Sunday asked parliament not to execute its decision to expel Mahendra and Jagat Yadav until a final verdict on a writ challenging their ouster.
They were expelled at the request of UCPN (Maoist).
They left the party to launch another party.

Reliability of UNMIN questioned

Kathmandu, 11 Jan.: The reliability of UNMIN has been questioned after the
decrease in numbers of disqualified Maoist combatants during discharge, Rajdhani reports.
The reliability of UNMIN and UN agencies is being questioned after 4,000 plus combatants in camps left before discharge.
Only 171 combatants were present during discharge that began from Sindhuli 7 January. There were 372 combatants there.
The missing combatants has left the camp earlier.
Division Commander Dhan Bahadur Maskey Rajesh said nearly half of the combatants at Shaktikhor in Chitwan won’t be present during discharge.
