Violent protest against federalism

Kathmandu, 10 Jan.: A protest called by Rashtriya Janamorcha against a federal structure turned violent as soon as it began Sunday morning in the Valley.
A bus of a casino taking workers home was torched din the capital and a truck was vandalized in Lalitpur.
Taxis were smashed in the capital for defying the strike call.
More than one dozen vehicles were damaged before noon.
The opposition which lends support to the government has been on nation-wide protests.

Former king holds discussions with Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi

Kathmandu, 10 Jan.: Former King Gyanendra held separate discussions in New Delhi with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress (I) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
The former king along with Queen Komal return home Sundaya after a five week India private visit when he attended a wedding of a relative.
The former king didn’t meet Singh and Gandhi when they were in India last year.
The meeting comes at a time when Nepal’s national politics has become murky and the Indian government, with communists out of government in New Delhi, has changed its attitude.
Relations with Maoists have soured even as India helped to bring them into the mainstream.
The biggest challenge for the government is to institutionalize a republic by drafting a constitution following the overthrow of monarchy.
A constitution has to be promulgated by 28 May as fears grow the deadline may not be met.
There are deep differences between major parties on what’s to be incorporated in a constitution with Maoists pushing a radical communist state.
