CA meets Wednesday

Kathmandu, 7 April: Constituent assembly (CA) meets Wednesday.
The assembly still has to send suggestions of eight subject committees to the main constitution drafting to prepare a draft of a constitution for promulgation by 28 May.
The CA has sent only recommendations of three subject committees,.
A constitution is unlikely to be promulgated by the deadline

Danish minister arriving

Kathmandu, 7 April: Denmark’s Minister for Development John Ping arrives Wednesday for a four-day visit, the Danish embassy said.
He’ll hold discussions with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepalon the peace process and Danish aid.

Hearing today on MRP passport scandal

Kathmandu, 7 April: The supreme court is scheduled to begin hearing on a writ petition challenging the government’s decision to award a contract to an Indian government security press to print machine readable passports (MRPs) without an international tender.
The foreign ministry and cabinet ignored parliament’s public accounts committee’s suggestion to award the contract through tender only.
Government gave the contract to an Indian company even as cheaper bids were submitted to the foreign ministry.
The writ was filed by advocate Hemmani Subedi.

Nepal meets Malaysia in ACC Elite Cup semi-final

Kathmandu, 7 April: Nepal meets Malaysia Wednesday in the ACC Elite Cup 2010 semi-final in Kuwait.
Nepal qualified for the semi-final after beating Kuwait by eight runs.
