PM meets Carter Center consultant

Kathmandu, 20 April: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal Tuesday held consultations with consultant of Carter Center Peter Burleigh.
Burleigh is a retired US diplomat with extensive experience in South Asia.
He headed the US embassy in New Delhi temporarily until the appointment of an ambassador by President Barack Obama.
Burleigh served in Nepal as a charge de’ affairs under Ambassador Carol Laise in the 1970’s.
The consultations were held one day after Nepal’s party-the CPN-UML, said a constitution won’t be promulgated by the 28 May deadline.
The party called for national consensus to extend the tenure of the constituent assembly which also ends 28 May.
Nepal is heading towards a political crisis as Maoists demanded the resignation of the 11-month Nepal government to form a national government under it.
Even if such a government is formed a constitution can’t be promulgated within the deadline because of differences on fundamentals to be incorporated in the basic law.
