NC sets pre-condition for extending CA tenure; Kamal Thapa opposes French intervention

Kathmandu, 16 May: NC, the largest party in the ruling coalition, Sunday set a pre-condition for extending the two-year tenure of the constituent assembly (CA) that ends 28 May without proclaiming a constitution to institutionalize a republic that’s already been declared by a self-appointed and unelected parliament.
The pre-condition was set by a joint meeting of the party’s central committee and parliamentary party amid widespread differences on extending the tenure.
The party decided the tenure should be extended only after a package agreement that includes the integration and resettlement of Maoist combatants.
Ruling Parties NC and UML had earlier to extend the tenure.
RPP-Nepal charged Sunday the French ambassador has written to the government demanding a secular state should continue.
Thapa accused the ambassador for directly interfering in Nepal’s internal affairs.
RPP-Nepal is pushing constitutional monarchy, a Hindu state andis against federalism demanding a referendum on the three issues.
The party has collected two million signatures demanding a referendum.
Nepal was also declared secular by an unelected and self-appointed parliament without letting the people decide.
More than 80 percent of the population is Hindu.
